Baddow Road Long Stay Surface Car Park

There is easy access to this car park and usually plenty of spaces after the morning rush is through.
Luckily it is possible to pay by card and via a mobile app because the coin machines can be unreliable and temperamental.
This is the best car park to use for the Essex Records Office - but beware, the access bridge can be treacherously slippery in wet, icy or damp conditions. The bridge surface is constructed from oak planks - hence the slip hazard, but the planking has gaps of up to 2 inches that could easily allow any dropped coins, keys or even mobile phone to fall through to the river below. Ouch!

I park here because I work in central Chelmsford. It's only a short walk along the river from the town centre but access in & particularly out with a car can be difficult due to the one way road & its proximity to the Army & Navy roundabout. It's a pay & display car park which currently costs £5.50 a day. There are frequently problems with the ticket machines, some of which take credit or debit cards as well as cash (no change is given when paying by cash).

Its car park. It's long stay so generally cheap for a long stay. Easy parking and decent sized bays. Getting out onto parkway can be a right pain at busy times. Parkway appears to have been a construction site for the past 20 years so watch out for rerouting or the inevitable crash on the flyover.

Large ground level open car park. Situated next to the canal. Its a good walk to the city centre but parking for long stay is reasonable. Can pay by card or app. Car park is pay and display. Mixed short and long stay parking.

Bumpy, poorly lit, prices you're charged don't match the tariff board. No CCTV I could see. Not brilliant. Board says £1 for the evening, app tried to charge me £1 / hr.

Obviously the car park does exactly what it says on the tin.... All ground floor level, wide open and well lit area.
The bonus is that the rear of the car park is along the river Chelmer. That particular area of the river is home to Mr & Mrs Swan, who, without fail every year, bring little additions to the Swan population.... Nature at it's best 🤩

Handy for the city centre. However: surface very rough; car access not the easiest as you have to double back from a roundabout to get in and out. Only one electric charge point and it was taken when I arrived, so left.

A hard bit of land to park your vehicle on. Seemed ok to me but wouldn't recommend it for a holiday destination.
