Richard's training is fantastic. Personal attention, focus on your own goals and a carefully tailored, progressive programme. I've been training for nearly two years, have lost 12kg, have become fitter, leaner and stronger. Richard's style is friendly, engaging and encouraging and his approach has helped to improve all aspects of my lifestyle, not only physical exercise, for the better.

For anyone reading this debating whether to go for it or not - GO FOR IT!!! I hesitated for months, watching the weight creep up and up, before I made the call to Richard at Hams Fitness - I wish I'd have done it sooner.

When I first started training I had zero confidence levels in myself and the way I looked, I was so self conscious of working out in a gym around other people, one of the reasons I had left it so long. The environment at Epsom is friendly with everyone focused on their own sessions - none of this posing in mirrors you get at other gyms!

I've been training with Rich for just over a year and am edging closer to the milestone of losing six stone; I feel so much more confident in myself, I feel better, I look better and my body shape has changed as well as the pounds coming off.

I enjoy my sessions with Richard, I never dread going to the gym, it never feels like a chore. The sessions are varied and enjoyable, every session planned in advance and logged to compare numbers to in the next workout. I notice my fitness levels and strength increasing from session to session, beating previous records in times, reps or weight. Rich pushes you to be better each session, giving encouragement when your mind is telling you to stop and your muscles are burning!

I've learnt a lot about the reasons we do a particular session or exercise, the muscles we're targeting and the effect it will have. We also talk about diet and nutrition, calorie intake and the importance of protein, compare meals planned for the week and where to adjust if necessary (I've also learnt a lot about 80's classic movies - another area of his expertise!!)

I will never go back to the weight I was when I started training over 12 months ago. My lifestyle has changed, I am better educated in the decisions I need to make with food and exercise - I couldn't have got this far without Richard's sessions, his knowledge and expertise and, probably most importantly, his support and encouragement every step of the way and for that I am truly grateful.

Been training with Richard at Hams Fitness for two years now. I had lost a lot of weight prior to training but things were slowing down and it was getting harder to shift the last few stone. I hate gyms, I don't know what I'm doing and up until I met Richard I had the mind set that hours and hours of cardio were the only way forward, that was never going to be something I could stick to long term or even short term. I'd had back problems for years so I was nervous of making things worse through lack of experience and realized i needed some help. I decided to bite the bullet and go for a consultation, I expressed my concerns and goals to Richard and he put a plan together to suite my needs. Three half hour sessions a week, hard work, dedication, consistency and it worked! Two years later and I have lost the last few stone and then some, kept it off, gained some muscle in places I wanted to and toned up.
I remember when I first started, Richard advised me that I might find my back gets better as it gets stronger. He was right, it took a few months but gradually over time the back pain started to ease up, now I'm totally pain free and have full range of motion for the first time in seven years! That alone is a life changer.
Honestly, Richard is just bloody good at what he does and clearly a lot of hard work has/is been put into his career. His knowledge of the body's anatomy, what it does and how it all works is impressive; and it's great to have a trainer who can explain and teach you about how your body works and why he is putting you through certain exercises and movements. It's actually helped me reconnect with my body after so many years of neglect. I must admit, I was concerned that I might get a trainer who has done the training, but does not have complete knowledge of the body's mechanics, or injuries and weaknesses that we accumulate over time and thus end up doing more damage than good. I had no need to worry about this with Richard.
His a true leader in his field, motivational and always an inspiration during times when you feel like you can't keep going. His also a really cool guy, funny, upbeat and keeps sessions fresh and interesting, I have never been bored yet which is refreshing! He has observed my strengths, weaknesses, likes and dislikes and worked with it. It's taken me two years of hard work, dedication and consistency to get into shape, lose weight and get fit and strong. I still have a way to go to reach fitness and strength goals, but it's been worth every second. I feel better now at 34 than I did at 24 and I have double the energy, my hormones have balanced, skin cleared and my sense of self worth has quadrupled which has made a massive impact on my life as a whole! I would never have got this far if it wasn't for our sessions keeping me focused and motivated, I honestly feel I have Richard to thank for that. For the support and guidance which has empowered me and taught me about the strength and power my body is capable of. I can't imagine living any other way now, it has become a lifestyle instead of a diet and more about strength, health and fitness rather than calories, restricted diets, and weight loss. I don't have to do hours and hours of awful cardio and i really look forward to going to the gym much to my own amazement!
Signed
A very happy girl! :-)

I'm very happy to recommend Richard. I started off doing Boot Camps in a small group of 3 people. More recently I have a 1:1 personal training session with Richard once a week. I've always had good endurance/stamina, but it's only in the last couple of years (I'm now 50) that I've 'discovered' strength 'stuff'. Richard and I agreed a set of specific exercises - a mixture of bodyweight and using weights, a training plan and some goals. With his help I've been able to see some really significant improvements. Richard is a friendly and enthusiastic trainer - if you're thinking of trying to improve your fitness, then get in touch with him !

If you want to get healthy and see results, Hams Fitness is the place to go. Richard is very knowledgeable about personal fitness and you can tell he isn't just another fad personal trainer - he is extremely passionate about fitness and wants you to get the most out of his sessions. While he does work you hard, he is also very understanding. Highly recommended to people just trying to get healthy, those who want to get into a regular fitness program and even those who have been there and done that. If you haven't used Hams Fitness, you haven't been personally trained.

I absolutely love training with Richard, he is extremely knowledgeable about his subject..
I have been a gym goer on and off for years, but my biggest gains came under Richards guidance. He made me realise the utter importance of diet and protein intake, so, along with simply turning up doing as instructed , the gains came quickly..( I should stress the doing as instructed bit...its all about strict form!)
. I'm stronger and leaner and if that's your goal too, go see Richard... simples.

This is exactly what a Personal Trainer should be, Richard is a beast of a man who really knows his stuff.

Previously I’ve used the PTs at my local gym, they always seemed unexperienced and didn’t really appear to care too much. Richard is different, his knowledge is extensive and he really did make a personal routine suited just for me.

Setup in a lovely private studio I felt less self-conscious and was able focus on his expert instruction. He pushes hard and I'm doing more than I ever thought I would be able to do. I'm not finished yet (are we ever?) but since starting I’ve lost weight and I’m seeing big improvements in my strength and stamina. Give him a try, you will not be disappointed.

My partner has been seeing Rich for many years, and recently, after some health issues, it was time for me to get fit. So I finally bit the bullet and booked in with Rich (Ham's Fitness). I told him what my issues were, and I explained my concerns and objectives.

What I got in return was brilliant. Rich knows the human body like we see the back of our hand. He understands the mechanical and muscle structure and, more importantly, how it all works.

I am now in my 13/14th week of seeing him twice a week, and what a difference. Rich finds workouts that work for me; he provides enough encouragement to get the best of me and tells me what we will achieve with the excise.

Having seen a few personal trainers over the years, Rich is by far the best I have experienced. He cares; he understands and gets as much enjoyment out of progress as I do.

On top of all this, he is a damn decent chap to boot. Would I recommend him? 100% he is fantastic at what he does, and the Privitar gym where I see him is modern, clean and peaceful.

My best advice for anyone looking for a reason to go to the gym is to get in touch with Ham's fitness and give Rich a try. You will not be disappointed.
