I went last Friday around 3 pm. Had unprofessional attitude from one of the staff. She was angry and aggressive when I didn’t know the difference between the first class and the special delivery which made me upset. I had to pay for the first class delivery stamp and then the special delivery and she didn’t bother to return the money for this mistake which obviously was because of her poor assistance.
Staff of the post office needs to know that not everyone is familiar with the self service and the way they sort the posted parcels. When it comes to important documents like passports they should help and provide guidance, which is part of their job. It was not an accepted attitude at all and if I didn’t have another appointment I would rather spoken to the office manager. Very disappointing

Blonde woman behind the counter literally threw my parcel (which she knew had a phone worth >£500) into the delivery bin behind her, hitting the wall and floor. Was rude and unhelpful to myself and the three customers before me. Been a few times and she’s been the exact same, the other woman has always been absolutely lovely. Horrendous service from this one individual
**edit. Turns out this individual is the manager. Every other member of staff is lovely, they all deserve a pay rise bar this woman

I have to use this place regularly unfortunately.

2 main issues;

1st is on the company. The whole set-up should be re-worked as it's woefully suboptimal currently. Presuming the layout must stay as is, they need to put their hands in their pockets and employ another person, 2 ideally. Running a skeleton crew results in nothing but regular queues and a frustrated work force.

This brings me to point 2.

I am guessing one person is always supposed to be on self service but they've almost always wondered off to assist the other under staffed areas.
This results in you putting through your parcels and then having to wait for the queue around the corner to die down so the actual self-service person can come and OK your efforts. Get it wrong, as many will do who are brave enough to use self-service the first time, and you'll soon get a dressing down.
Trying to avoid this farce or simply not feeling confident to use the self-service and opting to join the queue, will see you being marched back to self-service.

The work force here are a pretty miserable and rude bunch.
I presume they are overworked and under staffed.

There is one lady there who is exempt from this review as she is a superstar who goes above and beyond for me and is a pleasure to deal with.

In summary, I don't honestly believe the workers here get a kick out of being rude to people or legitimately have zero interpersonal skills. I suspect their general moral is a reflection of consistently being understaffed and over worked.
An extra employee and a lighthearted culture shift would solve most issues overnight.
Training the WHS staff to support the self-service on an ad-hoc basis (as they are always floating about the shop trying to look busy) would be the trifecta 🍾

But what a joyless experience this PO most often is...

AVOID THIS POST OFFICE AT ALL COSTS

I would give this post-office less stars if it were possible. The blonde lady who works there has absolutely no customer service skills. The way in which she spoke to both my husband and I was rude and down-right disgusting. She shouted at us and practically threw the parcels at my husband. She walked off half-way through "helping" us and we had to go and find her. I have never encountered such an atrocious individual, especially in the service sector. This lady has an awful attitude, she is socially inept and very aggressive. I will be taking this matter further.

I would like to say, however, that this review is no way a reflection on the staff at WH Smith who are always friendly and helpful.

Ladies working here deserve a pay rise. I came here before the end of their shift with lots of other customers and would expect them to be tired and grumpy, but they were the nicest and most helpful staff I could ever imagine, running around, doing stuff for customers that they should be able to do themselves me including. Sending huge thanks.

One individual that works here is incredibly rude to people asking her for help. She treated a gentleman terribly that was just trying to send a parcel last time I was in. Go to High Road Post Office a couple of minutes walk down the high street, much nicer experience.

Appallingly bad staff who are badly trained by a manager who really shouldn't be in charge of staff. The staff aren't able to manage customers needs and often get things wrong. Took in a prepaid signed for letter, asked for a receipt/proof of postage - left without the proper receipt. Was not given the tracking number. A complaint has been made but nothing has come of it. Avoid and use a courier. Much better service. They're too busy nipping out to Costa to serve customers properly. Better off going to the Post Office at 113a High Road. Lovely chap. Can't praise him highly enough!
