I've dealt with lots of estate agents by my family and I have never encountered such a terrible firm as Wilsons. We've been through nearly a year of hell with them but have finally managed to rent somewhere with a really decent landlord who acts like a landlord should.
In our first few days of living in this property of theirs, we had a water leak coming through the conservatory - which doubled as a dining area. 7 months later and it still was leaking. We had water coming through the kitchen ceiling constantly as the plumbing had been done by the actual home owner and was shambolic, we had the toilet almost coming through the kitchen ceiling, we had damp problems, windows that didn't either open or close properly, outside decking that was dangerous etc. Every time we asked for something to be repaired, we were sent a tradesman who said he didn't know why he was there or that he 'really wasnt a plumber/builder/electrician' etc. We did have two good tradesman that helped but it took months for the right people to sort certain major issues out.
Wilsons then sent us a letter saying that they were sorry but only 'important repairs' would now be looked at. When you pay £600 a month for a house, you shouldn't expect there to be any ongoing issues that take months to be looked at or ignored totally because 'the landlord doesnt want to spend any more money'. Well I'm sorry, but if you are a landlord, you have a duty of care to repair things that need repairing.
Also, apart from a lady called Amanda and a chap called Sion, the staff were incredibly rude. We were told on one occasion that a member of staff was raising her voice at my wife because she was 'fed up of this' and didn't have time to deal with an issue because her 'lad had the dentist' and the phone was slammed down.
Eventually, we were served a section 21 notice and told that the landlord wanted his house back to sell because he didn't have the money to repair it. After 2 months of hell, we managed to get out and find somewhere decent. Within 3 days of us moving out, the property was back up to rent!! Absolutely disgusting. I just wish I had the money to take Wilsons to court because the whole time spent under them was an absolute nightmare.
We’re lucky that the Welsh government aims to erradicate unscrupulous landlords and agencies with the use of rent smart wales and the new Renting Act Wales so I intend to make full use of the new law. I’ll be the first person to report this horror show if they’re still charging a fee come September.
Wilsons can go f....
