Great little pub, full of character, in the heart of old Amersham. The staff are warm and welcoming, with a good selection of food and drink. Ask for Stephan - he provided excellent service throughout our meal.

Excellent food and good service. Menu is traditional, but very well executed. Cocktail and wine list are small but serviceable. Warm ambience, and a mixture of tourists and friendly locals.

Not the best experience, popped in for a bit of lunch on New Years Monday. It wasn't busy so we asked for a table for two with room for a dog and was told we can sit where we liked, picked a table out of the way but had to clear some broken glass off the floor first. Eventually the waitress(?) appeared and we asked for menus, she came back with full menus so we asked again for lunch menus. We had to order at the bar with a bit of a wait as no one was there, but all the other tables had their orders taken at the table. Food was just OK with overcooked Halloumi fries and a Steak and Stilton Bap that was advertised as finished with caramelised onions, but in fact it was two rings of raw onion and a 6 large slices of Tomato (I hate Tomato)in a Ciabatta!!! But at least the Chips were very good. Had to go to the bar to pay and again no one was there so had to wait. Thing thing that annoyed me most was not once were we welcomed, asked how the food was or even how was it when we paid. Not likely to return.

Great Sunday roast with succulent lamb. Charming atmosphere of an ancient inn.
