Having arrived, we were impressed by the well presented building and the interior decor which was high class, modern and clean - very much so that we felt somewhat underdressed.
We were then shown to our table, whereby we weren't offered a high chair despite having a young toddler and therefore had to ask for one.
I ordered the Sunday roast and opted to go large which included two extra meats. My partner ordered the wholetail scampi and our toddler had the twisted pizza from the children's menu. My partner requested a pint of fresh orange juice, a pint of draught coke.
Before our meals arrived, we were both considering bringing family on a separate occasion. However, upon receiving our meals we were disheartened. The quality of the meals didn't match that of the price and we expected a much higher standard given the atmosphere of the place and menu.
My mashed potato tasted similar to instant mash and the meat wasn't what was to be expected and also seemed like a small portion for the price. Yorkshire puddings were homemade and tasted nice.
My partners wholetail scampi wasn't anything to really brag about, considering the price of £11+ and my toddlers twisted pizza lacked flavour and had a cheap taste to it. When my partner ordered her drink, she was asked whether she wanted it as a pint, to which she responded with yes, but with this in mind when she got her drink it was not and having checked the receipt it was in fact a Britvic Orange meaning it probably came from a bottle and therefore couldn't have been a pint regardless. The filtered water, which was complimentary so we can't really complain about but I will say it however, was warm and tasted like the tap water from our kitchen.
I don't think we will be returning, which is a shame because we were looking forward to bringing family up until our meals arrived.
And the food? Excellent.
We were in time for the good value multiple course meal choice before 5pm. We began with a mushroom and garlic bread...and I loved the crabcakes. The roast of the day was very popular, but I could see a steak and kidney pie served to a nearby table I will try next time!
We left so satisfied. Lovely staff and a bill that was really reasonable...so we will..be heading back very soon!
We was in the glass House area which was nice and private.
The food was perfect and all our guests was happy and enjoyed what they had ordered.
We opted for the Christmas fayre menu to keep it simple which had a decent choice on it for people who didn't want an actual Christmas dinner.
The only mix up I had noticed is some people wanted custard and not cream on their puddings but it was sorted straight away with no fuss.
Our guest who haven't been to the Carnarvon before was commenting how nice the place is and want to visit again.
I would highly recommend , we got a fantastic professional services from start to finish.
The only complaint I would have is that the Christmas fayre should have came with Santa hats and crackers which was not put out.
Would have been fun for the photos.
The food was really tasty and very good value. Portion sizes were quite large and we were offered top ups of veg and chips too! The vegan curry is worth a special mention and made a change to other vegan offerings some pubs have.
However, the food was overshadowed by the staff who are excellent. All very friendly, polite and attentive and made the meal special thank you.
