They shut at 22:00
All tables were stowed for cleaning had to eat stood up balancing a drink burger and fries.
Toilet was barricaded so we could not use it.
If it was 10 minutes to closing not 50 minutes I could understand it if they started clearing away. but come on this was a service station on a major holiday route we had been driving for hours and needed a bite to eat, a drink, and the toilet.
This lack of service station will be avoided in the future.
Mu meal included a Farmhouse Angus which was very tasty with a decent amount of salad in it too. I went for onion rings too, though they tasted a bit odd, made me think the oil was a little old or slightly burnt, but not much. I also tried their frozen lemon Fanta for the first time. It was refreshing but incredibly light.
The service was fairly fast though they weren't busy at 7.30 on a Tuesday evening. I did have to reorder at the counter after the self order screen refused to put my order through, which was a little annoying. Prices are a little higher than you would pay in town, but that's standard for service stations.
The menu is available online, giving nutritional information. Decent selection including vegetarian and vegan versions of the Whopper and the chicken royale, but no prices and you can't pre-order.
Sadly not a pleasant experience- toilets absolutely horrible, seating area disgusting, litter everywhere, tables unclean. Appreciate its a Friday eve and maybe understaffed(?) But couldn't wait to get out!
They were very quick in processing our order and I must say it was most delicious, the chicken royale I had was fresh and juicy and the chips were light and fluffy. The only gripe I have is that the cardboard straw always makes the coke zero taste weird. The store was very clean and tidy, plenty of room to move around, I did note they had disabled toilet facilities but I did not require the use of them. There was plenty of parking outside, including a number of disabled spaces.
As we left the store my wife asked if I knew the guys on the counter as they had been talking to me like we were old friends, I said I had no idea who they were and was told to stop collecting random strangers..lol
Real enjoyable stay as always, even the rain didn't spile it for us.
Exerlant accommodation, atmosphere and staff. The owners were very welcoming and accommodating, nothing was too much trouble.
Constantly changing local real ales that were well kept and served. I Didnt try one l didn't like, there are also a good range of ciders on offer.
The food menu was perhaps a little limited, but not a bad thing, but a couple of additions would be nice.
The food that was on offer was good and didn't break the Bank by any means!
Lovely atmosphere as you would probably expect from a 17th Century Ail house. With open fires etc.
We have stayed here on three occasions now and have never been disappointed.
It has improves eveytime we have visited and its still work in progress, but nothing that would spile any visit.
I totally recommend this Establishment.
Its location in a small village on Dartmore with it own waterfall and stream running through it really sets the scene and the location of The Walkhampton Arms.
There are many walks to be enjoyed over Dartmore that start from this location.
