Matteo's Settle Italian Restaurant

When we arrived we were just the only table at that time. The chef comes to service by himself and guides us to the seat. He’s the only one that works here so it made us wait a little long time for the food(just30mins). The foods were delicious and fresh but Risotto was a bit salty for me.

What a gem of a place, superb food crafted by a great chef Matteo. Enjoyed so much went back a few days later. The calzone is a feast to behold!

Gem of an Italian restaurant in the centre of Settle, located in a basement. Entry is past the kitchen - so you can see that it's clean and efficient - and there is seating for around 26, so it's quite intimate. Good choice of menu, I can recommend the lasagne which was home made and fresh. Being tight for space it might get warm in the summer, but very friendly chef and staff. Well worth a visit if you are in the area.

I was incredibly disappointed by the absolutely awful attitude of the owner. My work had booked for two of our clients to eat here and I decided that I would join them, so I called up and asked if I could add another person to the 7.30 booking but wasn't sure what name the booking had been made under. The person on the phone (the owner) said that this wasn't a problem and that I thought was that. When we arrived we were greeted with hostility from the owner unlike anything I've ever experienced in a restaurant in all my travels around the world. He was just short of shouting at us and made us feel incredibly uncomfortable and unwelcome. We sat down but decided to leave before we had ordered because the interaction was so unpleasant. As we were leaving Matteo shouted "don't ever come back". We went down the road to the golden lion we're we were served with smiles and pleasantness.

A note to Matteo - When you read this - your attitude was appalling and your aggression was completely uncalled for - I hope that you reflect and do better in the future.

Superb....1st time here but we were greeted like long lost friends. Matteo was on his own initially waiting on his staff arriving, he was really helpful and friendly. We had fabulous wines and craft Italian beers.
Waitress was lovely when she started and looked after us really well. Food was absolutely superb, really fresh and well cooked.
We loved the feel of the place and stayed all evening. If you want to be rushed through its not the place for you, if you actually like spending quality time with your fellow diners then it should be absolutely at the top of your list. Thanks so much for making our last night in Settle such a memorable one 💕

An interesting and busy Italian restaurant located in the lower ground of the market and the shambles. The owner/chef/waiter (all in one!) is the most enthusiastic person in town. Love his passion and service of delicious pasta and risotto with great portion. Recommend trying if you are /are not in a rush:)

Fantastic experience !! Quirky little restaurant serving great quality food cooked to perfection and a plentiful selection of wines and beer to accompany your dinner. Matteo himself is the perfect host..and is obviously passionate about his restaurant both cooking and taking time to interact with his customers. Not forgetting the lovely young lady who was waiting on on Sat night who looked after us. If your in Settle you must pay this restaurant a visit. It's a little gem..!!

Great evening spent at Matteo's when on a short trip to the Dales from London. Matteo's is an unsuspecting little restaurant, nestled right in the heart of Settle's market square.
Just walking through, you get the whif of fresh pizza and pasta to invite you in.
The restaurant is owned, run and all the food cooked by Matteo.
He is welcoming and says welcome to any and all that come into his restaurant.
He works pretty tirelessly on his own in the kitchen to cook everything fresh on the spot. With a small team of only himself and one waitress the night we went, we did not go expecting rapid service.
Instead we went to enjoy some wine, some conversation and some really good freshly cooked Italian food.
The portions are massive, and it is incredibly under priced for what you get to the point that I told Matteo to put his prices up. We had a bottle of wine, two large pizzas + Garlic bread for just about £20 a head......

If you want fast food, there is a chippy down the road. If you want good food and an intimate dining experience then Matteos is the place to go. When we visit again, we will make sure we have an evening to come back.
