Just stopped for an evening meal on our flying visit to Ruthin. I must admit to being a bit put off by the music when we first entered, but once inside it wasn't loud at all.
The staff were very friendly and attentive, and the food was well priced and delicious. Couldn't have asked for more!

Don't be put off by Google's Street View photo, this pub is very much open, and well worth a visit if in Ruthin - Have stayed here for a night, and had lunch on another couple of occasions - all great, friendly staff, good food (generous portions), excellent value. UPDATE - this is now a tapas bar, but leaning more towards offering a dining experience rather than a pub with food - it's great, Blue (yes, he is the chef), offers a wide range of dishes, over 2 nights we have tried around 18 and not a bad one to be had - worth booking as this place is shut Sunday and Monday, only open Tuesday evening, then lunch (12-3 pm) & evening (6-11pm) Wednesday to Friday, then all day Saturday - go, it's great.

Poor customer service. One poor staff member front of house on a Saturday night. We complained about the pepercorn sauce tasting like curry and got nothing other than oh yeah thats hot once ask her to taste it. Then she came back to ask if we had enjoyed our meal. Where i mention we hadnt touched out meal since the pepercorn sauce. Her reply was just i will let the chef know. Completely dissapointed.

My sister and I visited The Star on Friday night and had a meal here, it was well cooked, my sister had fish and chips, and I had The Seabass, followed by the Hazlenut Crème Brulee. It was cooked how I liked it, as I have an allergy to Garlic. Well worth the money. and we shall be returning there soon.

Brilliant little pub with a long history, cosy surroundings, poor selection of beers at the bar but plenty alternatives, food very good with two menus to chose, main menu varied prices or two for £15.00, both good but smaller portions on the offer, however there was plenty to eat on the 2 for 15. Great Pub good food and tasty.

Booked for the second time as a Groupon deal. Has now changed hands. Last time was great, this time.....it was awful. Arrived at 3:30 pm and it was closed. Phone number on the door. Called and text, but no answer. Came back two hours later and they were open. No explanation as to why did not respond. No cocktails on arrival and they have stopped serving food, so did not get the evening meal that was part of the deal. They had lost the keys for the room, but at least that delayed us from looking at the hole in the ceiling. Promised a cooked breakfast in the morning, but nobody turned up and we found a croissant in cling film with an apple in the kit hen in the morning. Left the keys and walked out..... Disgraceful

They do not serve meals and the breakfast consisted of a banana, a croissant, butter & jam and a bottle of water. It was noisy even at 2.00 o'clock in the morning. The window in our bedroom had broken catches and did not close properly. We were on a Groupon deal and did not get what we we paid for. The landlord's excuse was that the premises had changed hands. What a let-down.

Awful! BUT hopefully the new owners will do wonders to the place with the help of their existing staff, who were very welcoming and professional, despite the lack of stock. Best of luck guys you deserve it, it's a super place with lots of character!
