My girlfriend and I found out this cosy and friendly bar while wandering around Canterbury at breakfast time and we liked it so much that we came back for lunch too. We both had a great espresso and a pain au chocolat and they were so nice. Then we had a quick chat with the owner who was so kind and playful. For lunch we had a quiche Lorraine and it was yummy :) Also, the serve Illy coffee 🇮🇹 and honestly it is super cheap. What a gem!

Incredible range of options here, service is incredible far more than it looks on appearance. Always busy for a reason, owner made fresh béchamel for the croque monsieurs I ordered. Cannot recommend this place enough.

I had a horrible experience at this place. I went there and had a sit down coffee and croissant at one of his outdoor tables. The following day I went back and when I ordered the same, the owner, in front of other customers and his own staff, very rudely said 'I am not serving you'. At first I thought it was a joke, but then realised it wasn't. He followed up by saying 'you were in here yesterday, weren't you? To which I replied yes. He then started shouting 'Get out of my shop!' At which point asked why. He accused me of throwing a chair to the ground and purposely spilling coffee all over the floor. I told him that this was not true, but was so shocked, I just upped and left. When I calmed down, 15 minutes later, I then went back into his shop to tell him I had not done this. He again asked if I had been in his shop yesterday (the answer was still yes), so he repeated his accusation and made no attempt at an apology. As he clearly didn't believe me (I assume it was a case of mistaken identity), so I invited him to speak to two regulars who had seen me the day before and knew I had not done this. However, he was totally defiant - and still very angry - so I left telling him I would NEVER step foot in his shop again, and never will. A truely appalling experience. I can forgive the mistaken identity, but he must at some point realised he was in the wrong and still never apologised.

If you are a man you will enjoy this shop, if not be prepared to be talked down too in a disgusting manor over a small misunderstanding during ordering food and drinks, my friend misheard the gentlemen working and as such made a small mistake, and when the mistake was prompted by the owner was extremely apologetic and acknowledge it was an honest mistake, instead of accepting that it was a mistake the man continued to belittle and abuse my friend for a good 5 minutes, and when continued inside the shop to pay the difference for the mistake his attitude was still appalling. Simply put I highly doubt he would of behaved the same way if you have a pipe between your legs

Very tasty food, reasonable prices, kind and friendly staff, and banging tunes being played in the background! 5*

Good food, made to one's specific requirements, warm and convivial atmosphere: a small gem of Canterbury! It was the first coffee shop which drew me in, over 7 years ago when moving to the area (I 'm French and so is the owner). I love The Sandwich Bar!

I was visiting my solicitors when I spotted this place directly opposite, I tried their chicken mayo and salad baguette and it was one of the most delicious baguettes I’ve ever tasted. Very friendly owners too, highly recommend!
