Mice: Please talk to owners before setting off to stay here.

I've been in two minds as to whether to write this review or not. However, I feel that it is only fair to advise imminent arrivals to this property of the experience we had.

The cottage is quirky, cosy and small but within minutes of arriving at the property - I saw a mouse run along one of the walls in the kitchen, then from underneath the dishwasher, then across the floor to the dryer, before heading into the main living room.

We contacted the owners straightaway who were very apologetic and said that they would send somebody in the next day to put down traps. As we were travelling with our 2 children and we'd looked forward to this holiday for 12 months - we made the decision to try not to let one rogue mouse affect our stay.

However, the next day as we were having breakfast we saw a whole load more. I saw a mouse run up and down the fireplace (even past my dog, who didn't bat an eyelid) several times and as I was having a shower, my husband saw two mice in the cloakroom area between the kitchen and living room. Just a few minutes later, my eldest son, also saw a mouse by the radiator.

We contacted the owners straightaway who were very sympathetic and apologetic. They said that the cottage has been booked back to back and that nobody else has reported this problem before. Being hundreds of miles away in Nottingham, they said that there wasn't a lot they could do.
As a family, we made the decision to leave the property. We really did not want to be dealing with a mice infestation during our stay. The owners completely understood and gave us a full refund, no questions asked.
In the meantime, as we were packing up, a gardener came round to put some mouse traps down. He put two traps down with cheese as bait. At this point, we also understood that there was already a trap underneath a cupboard in the living room.

I suppose the point of me writing this review is to advise anybody who has an imminent booking at the cottage to contact the owners before setting off. The mouse traps are not going to solve the mice infestation problem. This cottage needs poison and then maintenance.

If you are ok with sharing your holiday with mice, then you'll be fine; if like us, you just want a lovely break with your children after a very difficult 18 months - then, please find alternative accommodation, unless the owners are able to assure you that they have dealt with the infestation adequately.

I hope that this review helps somebody.
