Booked prior to lockdown. Brilliant price, exactly what we wanted a no frills next to a canal cottage. Lovely conservatory overlooking the water and surroundings. It's needs a little TLC throughout, parking a bit of a problem, other than these minor things a wonderful week was had.

We just wanted to say thank you for a great holiday at Swan Bank cottage. Despite the week of our stay in February 2020 coinciding with the arrival of storm Ciara, we absolutely loved it. The kitchen was very well equipped with all necessary utensils, plus a dishwasher and washing machine as an added bonus. Everywhere was very clean and the sun room overlooking the Brecon & Monmouthshire Canal would have been great to sit in had we not had such inclement weather! The cottage is ideally located in the centre of Brecon and within walking distance from the many pubs and restaurants. On returning from a stormy and cold day out, we loved sitting in front of the log burning stove.

The only issue we had was the staircase. The wooden stair treads are very slippery and there was no hand rail half-way which meant holding onto the balusters for support; a number of which were loose. Some anti-slip stair tread material would make the stairs much safer.

Notwithstanding, we would not hesitate in recommending this to anyone. We had a wonderful relaxing holiday and didn't want to go home.

We stayed here 2 years ago (May 2018)
Looked at price 2 weeks ago for same date
1st week in May 2021 at £435.00
Price has gone up to £670 for same week.
Contacted Brecon Cottages but wasn't budging so due to 50% increase they have lost out on 2 x bookings due to recommendation to a friend.
Phoned up today to book but not at that price so reason for 3 stars instead of 5.

It's such a shame because this place has so much potential. If you have a car forget about parking it down the street, you will have to budget to stay in the carpark £28 for the week.We also had a dog and this place was supposed to be dog friendly,no sign of that no dog bowls or a dog bed and we had to pay an extra £20 a week. There are a number of windows in the property that the double glazed seals have blown so the windows are misted up.The exterior door needs replacing and if you like spiders then the conservatery is the place for you.The TV and instructions were useless as the TV had a mind of itself in turning it's self on.Not sure about the cleaness of the property as we found a clump of hair at the top of the stairs on arrival. If you have small children and young dogs I would say you need to be in the garden with them all the time as there is a low wall and then the canal, this can be rectified by putting a glass screen all the way along. It would seem that the owners like the money coming in but don't like to spend on maintaining this property which is a shame as it's in a great location.
