The newly opened tesco express on London Street is certainly no replacement to the "Metro" supermarket that it replaces.

The former "Metro" was modest compared to out-of-town supermarkets, but was far more than a convenience store...there was a reasonable selection of most items, from fruit/veg, meats, frozen foods, and beverages.

Sadly the new store is a fraction of the size, and offers a tiny "convenience" selection, similar to other almost identical stores within a minutes walk. The three aisles are incredibly cramped such that you are forced to walk in single file, and there is little selection of anything.

Given there are only a fraction of the tills available, it is clear that this store is not intended to serve a similar quantity of customers. Almost all of my regular staples are no longer available, and I will be forced to go elsewhere in future.

I can't think of any reason why I would visit this new store, certainly not that I wouldn't have walked a few minutes to one of the others.

NEW LONDON STREET TESCO IS TERRIBLE. No space to move, miserable staff, no one on the till to authorise a self service redbull. 1/10!

Although a downgrade of the previous Tesco Express located near the new one, it has a good selection of items and has everything you will need.

Has been updated and modernised since the last time I went in 2 years ago. Fewer tills and more self-service. Better layout of store and wider aisles. More varied items, household mops, stationery, homeware, mobile phones even. Easier to get around the store and it's less cluttered. Regular food and prices. If you have the Tesco club card you pay the slightly cheaper price.
Daytime is very busy. 9pm at night it's not so bad.
Store is closing in May 2022 - due to a change in shopping habits.

Guildhall Hill Tesco is now permanently closed in Norwich having moved to the London Street store pictured. The new store is unfortunately quite cramped and I'm not sure how those with wheelchairs/ buggies etc cope negotiating the narrow aisles when the shop is busy. The store on Westlegate, a 10 minute walk away, is a bit better set out. Both stock basic groceries - a lot less in this new London Street store than the old Guildhall one unfortunately.

Updated review (27/12/22):
The Tesco in the City Centre was once a great shop with a big floor plan with tons of stock and wide ranges. It was a definite convenient store for supplies when living in the City area.
The downsized branch is unfortunately a letdown in my opinion.

The aisles are very cramped and small which can be proven difficult to navigate through for both able-bodied and disabled customers. And that is made harder to get through if staff members are stacking shelves with cumbersome trolleys and racks full of stock to unload.
The branch doesn't offer a wide range of stock sadly with little to offer, and service can be slow sometimes even on self-checkout when ID needs to be shown.

I would only use this store to grab lunches and drinks if I have no alternative options. But on occasion, the fridges will be almost empty even during early lunch hours.

I would reckon when Morrisons open on Haymarket that will take most of the business.

A sad loss, and an unfortunate decision by the head offices at Tesco to relocate a once great branch into a small shop outlet.

This is the Evil Tesco. Worse in every conceivable way than the old tesco metro. It feels similar to when the lights go on at 4am in the nightclub and you realise you're in a half finished basement and everyone there is haggard and confused. It has London vibes in the sense that its cramped, smells bad and you lose 5 years off your life if you spend too long there. Honestly horrible

Too little space between aisles. The shelves are stocked to the rafters. I find the place cramped and claustrophobic and I don't even have claustrophobia 😅. I have avoided going there, as much as I can, since they squashed all the aisles together and piled things high. The shelves also have awful solid plastic advertising boards attached to the fridges/shelves that hit you as you walk by.
