The foodhall is fabulous. Parking is a problem.
Not sure how this store design has passed - it has a bread display at foot to bottom height. But as if this isn’t off putting enough, there is no glass divide or panel protecting it from coughing and sneezing customers.
Not in a single country known for bread (Germany or France for example) you would find a bread display at lower body height - nor entirely open, facing the customers without protection.
The bread display is traditionally behind the bakery staff at head height, where customers can see, chose and get it wrapped. An unhygienic, uninformed and not fit for purpose display really negates the purpose of making good bread in the first place - which is a great shame for the product.
I revisited M&S today to return the pair that didn’t fit and was met with a incredibly rude individual (I can’t remember her name but she had short red hair). I patiently waited at the till whilst she folded clothes for the next 5 minutes, after which she ever so graciously told me to ‘come over here then if you want me to serve you’. I gave her the trousers which I wanted to return and explained to her I tried them on but unfortunately they didn’t fit. She insisted to me that she wouldn’t be able to accept them as they had been creased and therefore weren’t able to be resold. She then requested that her manager came over to inspect the creases, after which he concurred that they weren’t able to be returned claiming if they are creased then I’ve quite clearly worn them on multiple occasions. The only time I removed the item from the bag was to confirm which size trousers fit me best. The whole conversation was particularly unpleasant and the way they went about the situation was just rude. If that’s how the individuals choose to treat their customers I’d hate to think how they treat other staff members. I’m overall really disappointed by the level of service and I think the individuals involved should be embarrassed by the way they portrayed themselves. They have really tarnished my view of all individuals working there which is a shame as I’m sure some of their colleagues are as attentive as the first lady who helped me. I categorically refuse to return to the M&S in Islington. Please avoid at all costs.
