I've been a loyal customer to King David Tyre for many years. I've had MOT, tyres replaced, shock absorber fitted and many other job. So, when my car broke down I thought I'll take it to King David Tyre as this was the last place of my MOT and they know my car history well.
I cannot stress enough to tell you how wrong I was bringing my car to King David Tyre. The mechanic tells me I needed new clutch, dual mass flywheel and bearing replaced as he believed this was the issue that was causing my car not to start. He quoted me £620 for the job inc labour.
I was so desperate to get back on the road so I trusted him with the job. Later when I was quoted cheaper price by another garage, LEE HAY pressured me to keep my car with him saying he already started taking the gearbox out to access the clutch assembly and that I would have to pay him to put it all back together. So I left my car with him to fix as I didn't want to pay any more money.
When the job was done he refused to accept payment by credit card and wanted only cash payment. He did not provide me any receipt/invoice for the new parts other than a basic hand written receipt. I was provided Mr Hay mobile number and I was told if there is any problem with the car to call him.
With the new clutch fitted, I drove 9 miles from King David Tyre and my car broke down again with the same problem - engine not starting!
I took my car straight back to King David Tyre and noticed an invoice was generated on the alternator in my name which I didn't know about. When I asked about the invoice he simply said it was a wrong part that he ordered and was planning on returning it - which raised my suspicion. Mr Hay fits a new battery and made it sound like he was giving me the battery for free, when in fact he simply claimed it off my 12 month warranty on my previous battery from Euro parts.
When I asked Mr Hay to show me if the new battery was been charged by the alternator he refused to show me this correctly and told me everything was working fine including the alternator and the charging system and he ensured me that the battery was charging and there was nothing to worry about. Mr Hay advised me to go for a even longer drive and I quote "the alternator needs to be charged!" What does this mean ?
After Mr Hay refused to show me correctly if the new battery was charging I took my car straight to nearby BMW garage and I told them what had happened. BMW diagnose the problem and found that the alternator was never charging the battery and as a result concluded that the previous battery must have been so low and insufficient to start the engine - later this was confirmed when I tested the old battery.
BMW assured me that it was nothing to do with the clutch that prevented my engine from starting and told me even if you remove your clutch on a normal working 1 series - like mine, the engine would still start.
I went one step further into my investigation and took my car to another local garage and they told me the same story as BMW. I also contacted King David Tyre Head Office about the service I been offered by Mr Hay and the Head Office had no record of any work carried out on my car - the last record showed I had tyres replaced. With this bullet proof evidence I plan on reporting this to Trading Standards to fully expose King David Tyre. I would not recommend anyone to go there for anything! Going to King David Tyre costed me so much money and they have put me in great financial difficulties. They are liars and I DONT trust them anymore! There was no need to rip me off like that just because I don't know much about cars.
Had multiple tyres changed here due to punctures because they were nearby to my work - 3 new tyres. Every time when I asked for a repair they said it wouldn’t work and would be better value to just buy a new tyre for £50/£60. The new tyres were then getting punctures!
Took it to my normal garage and they told me the tyres weren’t being changed properly (not cleaning the wheel etc when removing the tyre so all the gunk was causing more punctures). They also couldn’t understand why King David Tyres kept pushing me to buy brand new tyres, they repaired my puncture for £10-£15 no problem, whereas I’m sure King David would have pushed for me to buy yet another new tyre!
The guy on reception doesn’t seem to cope with the workload.
Queued and then asked to move aside so he can serve the guy behind me. I would have been fine with it if he was polite, but he’d already answered the phone twice and left me standing. Wouldn’t go back
