A pleasant walk from Hopwood to The Wast Hill Tunnel. This time of year the path is a little muddy but worth the effort. Shame the area around the tunnel has become a fly tippers paradise I dread to think what’s in the water. Still it is an Engineering marvel .

Quite an experience to navigate down the tunnel, all lights on in boat, etc but is good. The ceiling is quite damp and dripping in places and obviously it's very long at 2.5km. Takes 45mins - 1 hour to get through. I had no traffic luckily so wasn't too bad, I can imagine it's trickier with traffic both ways. At the rear of the boat you basically cannot see anything around you or behind, just the light at both ends of the tunnel, and the little ahead of the boat illuminated by the headlight. Edit: I went back through it yesterday and could not see to the other side until less than 1000m away, so depends really on weather as to how far you can see

As a previous reviewer already mentioned, this is an engineering marvel.
You would think it would be untouched but sadly, the lesser people have fly tipped and of course the added graffiti on the walls.
Don't let this put you off however, lovely place to stop and visit if your in the area or just generally live close enough to have a walk.
The surrounding area makes this a perfect spot in the summer or hotter days.

The canal path is a nice walk. Be cautious with the weather as the track can get quite muddy. The walk from entrance to entrance passes through a housing estate which is a fair distance which makes you appreciate the length of the tunnel.

Classic boater tunnel. Yes, 2 narrow boats do pass easily.
