Great National trust property with very helpful guides on hand to tell you about the house’s history. Lovely gardens with a few longer walks. Small tearoom which also has outside seating.
Would visit again

This house and gardens are a good reason to join the National trust. A house built over time and gardens that feel just right in thier layout. The house is well furnished and you can see around some of it. Part is given over to a wedding venue or place to stay. Nice café here and a second hand book shop. Toilets are well kept and the staff are really nice and helpful. There are also some good walks around the area that start here. Car park is level with plenty of room, some on grass parking too.

What a really nice place to visit has the calmness, charm with well kept grounds. The best welcome to a National Trust place we have had. Also, was shown the different walks had a dog in tow. Also good cafe if not expensive.

This is a great place to visit. In fact, we only had time to do the gardens (and cafe) on this visit as we were heading further afield. Loved the way the beautifully tended gardens were offset with areas laid aside for wildlife. I spent some time revisiting my youth by watching the amazing array of butterflies along the field margins and herbaceous borders. The wonderful smells and sightings really brought home how much habitat we have lost and the cost to nature. Top marks for the thought that's gone into making this varied and amazing landscape. I'll be back and hopefully will get to see inside the house.

What a fabulous day out! I was very surprised to see a very full car park but now I know why. Incredibly helpful staff while scanning in, gave me information where I could walk my dog on my next visit and explained the best way to do the tour of the grounds.
Tea room was busy but it was raining, it was quite small and rather warm. We had a cream tea (£6.20) and a latte which were delicious.
Overall a great day spent wandering and learning.

Great looking property, didn't go into the house as we have a dog. Had some food from the cafe and sat outside to eat. Unfortunately the outside seating was plagued by a number of wasps so we moved away to find another spot. A lot of the bins seemed full which might have been the cause. We took the purple walking route through the fields and to the river which was lovely and well maintained.

Stunning location with oodles of history, peaceful beautiful gardens, parts of the house dates back to the 1300's. Very hot when we visited but lots of shady areas to cool off under the trees.

Had a lovely day out looking around the house and gardens. The house is impressive from the outside but you can't look at very much of the inside. The bits you can see are very impressive with beautiful architecture.

The gardens had a great selection of plants and flowers. They were a joy to explore. Lots of seating is available for a picnic.

There are a few walks around the surrounding countryside that would be perfect for a sunny day.
