The Fairbourne railway is a super little railway running from Fairbourne to the end if the Mawddach river where it meets the Barmouth ferry. Lovely scenic trip and friendly helpful staff, on our trip a little boy dropped his flag on the outward journey and the engine driver stopped the train to retrieve it for him on the return one.

Nice little cafe for a snack & a cup of tea/coffee, toilets on site, take the steam train to the harbour ferry station then cross over to Barmouth by the small ferry £2.50. nice views of the estuary from the boat .

Just across the water from Barmouth but polar opposite. Where you have the hoards of people and the noise and razz matazz of Barmouth this is a lovely spot to pull up, chill out and soak up the views of the estuary. If your missing the noise and hustle and bustle of Barmouth it is only a short boat trip away. Parking is limited to best to get there early and park sensibly so everyone can get a chance
To park. The local council could do with emptying the bins more often as they were over flowing today ( i suspect its the nice weather and camper vans turning up en masse ) its a lovely walk back to Fairborne or cycle ride. As usual enjoy the views, remember not everyone loves your noisy jet ski! And leave only footprints and dispose of your rubbish responsibly.

I loved this little 10 minute crossing, being on holiday or away for the weekend is all about doing stuff that you don't do ordinarily. This fits that bill perfectly. Getting on a lovely little boat straight off the beach, chugging your way across the beautiful estery to the dockside in Barmouth is a perfect way to break the normality of life. Children of all ages would love it including ones like me in their 60's. Do it, you'll love it. Oh and if you get the chance to get their via the little train then so much the better

Travelled from Trefriw to Barmouth Bay which we thought was town centre. On arrival we was welcomed by a beautiful beach and a mini tourist train. Walked along the beach front only to realise we needed to be on the otherside of the sea. So we got a boat taxi £2.50 each way to cross the sea to where the resort was. Had an amazing day but we prefer the quiet beach side.

This is definitely one of the most scenic railway stations you'll ever visit, with beautiful views across the harbour & also of Snowdonia. The cafe is small, but the coffee is decent and it's not expensive. You can get the ferry to Barmouth from here (as the name suggests) - it's a lovely trip, but the boat is small, so it might not be suitable for children who have had enough sitting still on the train.

We took a small ferry across the river and were delighted to find a lovely cafe and small steam train. Great day out from Barmouth.

Nice little station with a cafe adjacent to the little boat ferry to Barmouth.
