Great tour at 2pm every day

Just to warm you the tourist office has now moved closer to the Cathedral, opposite the Angel Hotel.

We paid £5 for a guided tour that was one of the best I have been on. There was a lot of history covered on the Cathedral and town and Stephen the guide was excellent.

Not particularly helpful. Around 4.20pm so I guess they were hoping to leave- as it closes at 5pm.
Two staff sat there for two minutes or more and made no eye contact while two of us stood right. in front of them waiting to see who was serving. We were the only people there.
We were looking for accommodation and were just handed a booklet and told to go find something. Lady told us she didn’t know about availability - her suggestion was we should walk to the close by places - 4 of them- and ask if they had rooms - in the rain and dark.
But she did say all the places listed in book were recommended. First one we tried the staff were not honouring the advertised rate. Second one was basically closed because it is so quiet at the moment - but was happy to take a room if we came back in an hour. If Tourist Info had phoned ahead she would have been ready for us. ..
I work in hotels and do more when we are full, to find accommodation for weary tourists than this Tourist Info. And a Tourist Info can also collect commission on bookings to recoup money for the ratepayers funding them.
Not impressive service by any standards

Bury St Edmund's is a beautiful market town. I love the market on Wednesdays & Saturday's. Atmosphere is always pleasant & such a wide variety of foods to eat or take away. Clothing stalls for everyone's taste, vinyl records to browse, jams & chutneys to buy. Fabulous market to pay attention to.
