She was an average maths student struggling a little with multiplications etc I could see as maths got tougher at school she would start to fall behind so I looked at ways to help her - Kumon!
Carol the tutor is amazing at what she does! My daughter has been going here for almost a year now and her maths has improved so much. She is now flying through long multiplications. She has been moved into top set maths at school too!
She completes a math paper everyday which takes about 20 minutes and goes to the centre once a week. Sometimes she doesn't want to do the paper but of course has to, so this too is a good lesson that daily practice leads to confidence and results.
If you are thinking of a maths programme I would highly recommend Kumon and this particular centre run by Carol!
We like Kumon because it leads to steady and sustained progress not just cramming for a test. Sometimes our daughter finds the daily worksheet a pain but normally it's just part of the routine and when she makes progress she is really pleased.
The teacher Carol is smart, reliable and respected by all the children. She runs the centre very efficiently and always holds a really nice Christmas party and achievement presentation.
Carol runs the place brilliantly and is sympathetic and understanding to each child’s individual needs and tailors their programmes accordingly. She is always available (not just during the lessons) to discuss your children’s progress and to resolve any problems.
Highly recommended
Both our children say they find the kumon worksheets “easy” but strangely, both now claim that maths at school is their favourite subject even though the maths is different. Our youngest has even been awarded a maths prize; both are confident with numbers now, make a lot less mistakes so are concentrating more even with background noise that they have learnt to block out and both love doing number puzzles such as sudoku, number towers and number crosswords that they come across in the back of kids magazines. And the methodology has also helped them in spelling also; the kumon method repetitive learning and answering correctly under pressure has seen their spelling test results get to a near perfect 100% (up from around 80% last year).
This is thanks to Carol for her patient and empathetic teaching style whilst still demanding commitment and performance from the student. Even during lockdown, it help provide much needed structure.
I would highly recommend.
