It's probably the best library in the whole of Kent in my opinion, or at least certainly the best in Canterbury. It's huge. Other good ones are the CCCU (Canterb. ChristChurch) and Drill-Hall (Medway), and ones in London (British Library, UCL ones, KCL, etc). I myself did my degrees at University College London and KCL, but lived in Canterbury for 20 years and my mother and 2 siblings did qualifications at Kent U. There's been huge renovations since I first came here about 15 years ago.
Lots of books on my interests: neuroscience, biomedical sciences, biochem, medicine, computing/engineering, economics, anthropology, cognitive psychology, education, literature, etc. You can also browse non-contact & remotely via e-formats. It has a variety of physical and digital accessibility avenues for a range of people from various neuropsychological backgrounds.
Staff are always very busy, but they are usually very informative and friendly and helpful when you need help with something.
There are a lot of interactive video screens displays and information posted up everywhere, which is good. There are different areas, with seating and tables, and books, and computers, some for collaboration in groups, sites for individual communication with people; other areas that are silent areas with dividers between deskspaces are great for peace and quiet to study independently and work and focus. You can report problems via a QR code stickers.
Internet connection eduroam and wifi guest is pretty good (speed, reliability) in most parts of the building, although your personal mobile internet mifi may not work fully everywhere. Many electrical mains outlets and usb charger ports, but also it would be great if there were more plugs or multiple extension leads near some of the walls/windows where there are movable desks. Sometimes it can get very busy unfortunately, even despite long opening hours, especially during term times during revision periods, as expected, but you need to find the periods of time where some parts are less busy. Water bottle filling stations are good, especially during warmer days.
Allow the public to access the library on a daily basis.
Anyone can jump in and get some knowledge recharge 😉.
At the reception they will give you a visitor pass which allows you to use the library till 9pm of the day.
However I found that the seating area is occurring by a few brat. I believe they will find the light of knowledge from here someday.
