I have recently had such an awful experience with this garage that it has prompted me to write a review in the hope that others can be wary of the totally unprofessional, shady and crass way in which a customer can be treated.
A few days after my initial phone enquiry about a 2014 Audi TT Roadster, when James advised that a deposit had been already been taken earlier that day, he phoned to say that the potential sale of the car had had turned sour. He would not be re-advertising the car until the following week, and in the meantime would "give me first refusal" on the car. I therefore arranged with James to view the car on Friday 18 March 2022. However, I subsequently had to phone the garage to change the viewing to the following day (Saturday 19 March). In James absence, I spoke to his mother, and explained that I was still very interested in the car, but could not now attend the garage as previously arranged. I requested for James to ring me if there were any problems with the new arrangement. It is now very ironic that James' mothers reaction was to say that she "could not envisage any problems and they looked forward to seeing me on SATURDAY AFTERNOON".
I therefore made the 60 mile round trip to view the TT on Saturday. Upon arrival at the garage, I made my way into an office unit, where after a wait at the office door, my presence was finally acknowledged by a man in the office who turned out to be James. After introducing myself, James made no welcome gesture, and in a very unapologetic manner, merely advised that the TT had been sold earlier that day. When I asked how come, when he had given me first refusal, and why he had not phoned me, he shockingly said that as far as he was concerned I had advised his mother that I could not attend the garage on Friday as originally arranged and I would be back in touch. I therefore challenged this version of my conversation with his mother, but James did not even have the decency to look me in the eye and acknowledge that they might have messed up. Instead, he merely left the office to take a phone call, without any word of an apology.
This is no way to treat someone, and James turns out to be a totally different person to the charmer he is on the phone. He is rude, ruthless, and totally lacking in any people skills. His word should not be relied upon..... BEWARE!!

We saw a car online and contacted James to arranged a viewing. He even offered to come in on a bank holiday! After meeting James and him giving us the details of the car, he left us to it and added no pressure (unlike other experiences with pushy sales people). Once all was agreed, we reserved the car and picked it up the following week. All super straightforward and the car is in brilliant condition and I’m sure will serve us well. Thank you James!

After purchasing a car from James this weekend, I cannot recommend him highly enough. The whole experience was 5* from start to finish. James was thorough, diligent and a complete pleasure to deal with. He provided a very detailed handover and excellent advice on future servicing etc. The vehicle was in mint condition, cleaned beautifully and drove wonderfully the full 2.5 hours back home! I would not hesitate to recommend James and Painswick Valley Car Sales to anyone.

Absolutely 1st class service ,bought my lovely mini countryman today from the very helpful James ,very friendly and went through everything about the car . If your thinking of buying a car then this is the place to go , thankyou James .

With some trepidation we travelled the 2 3/4 hour journey to Painswick. James was super helpful, professional and attentive, showing us the full spectrum of knowledge and experience of the car. The test drive went very well, paperwork completed we drove back with no issues. Would recommend to anyone thinking of getting a fair price to consider the journey.

Excellent service from you both. we both love the Countryman use it more than our other car, so much to cheaper to run, and is so nippy for a little diesel car . I absolutely Love her to bits after saying before I didn’t want a red car and didn’t want a mini. What happened there, xxxlove her xxx

Bought a lovely car off of James end of November. He was so helpful and thorough throughout. Would definitely recommend, or use Painswick Valley cars again
