I have used a salt based water softener in my own home which I am very happy with but decided to give this version a try as it potentially has many advantages over a salt based version. I was hoping it would work as we wanted to use them in another development with several flats. These advantages include no salt requirement and no waste water. However my main concern was to reduce the amount of cleaning and scale build up in this newly refurbished flat including all of the new equipment (washing machine, immersion tank, taps, WC's etc). Unfortunately the unit did not meet my expectations. In fact although the water may have been slightly softer, I noticed (neither did the cleaners) no discernible difference to the level of staining, water marks, scale build up than before it was fitted. Simply put it didn't meet my expectations at all. I admit that I'm used to the very soft water that leaves no stains or build up whatsoever from a salt based unit and also the particular area and the building had particularly hard water.
After one year I received a refund of around 15% as a goodwill gesture from the company who did not request the unit back. I am not doubting the integrity of this firm or any of the people I dealt with. This product has its place in the market without a doubt. What I do want to point out to any other potential buyers is that you should make very sure what your actual expectations are before you purchase a saltless unit. You need to be fully clear and informed about how they work and what kind of results you should expect. I was obviously hoping for a bit more than I received and maybe I should have looked into the finer details a lot more before I purchased. But they are very, very different to salt based softeners
We've installed dozens of Aquatiere and Pureau filters over the past years and have always been pleased with their performance. The really big thing for us is that they stop the build-up of limescale on internal plumbing components e.g. cylinders, immersion heaters, washing machines and thermostatic shower valves. But (as a previous reviewer correctly commented) limescale deposits will still form where exposed water droplets are allowed to sit and evaporate e.g. shower screens, tap/shower outlets and kettles. These are easier to remove than limescale deposits from unconditioned water, but they do occur. We explain this clearly to our clients prior to installation so that their expectations are properly managed. That said, to clean the shower screen, tiles and taps is a lot simpler - and less expensive - than changing a hot water cylinder for example!
Another benefit (compared to salt-based softeners) is that the water is great to drink and good for the garden too
Finally, we can't fault the service of Aquatiere. Always helpful and very quick delivery service. We plan to continue installing their water conditioners for the foreseeable future
The Multi-Function Refillable Chrome Shower Handle filter has a range of different settings, but none are really useful. What you want from a shower head is overall proper pressure, but with this you either get a few variations of weak pressure, or one setting with actual pressure, but it only comes from the centre of the shower head, which is uncomfortable and strange. Nothing you do with your shower taps changes the pressure of any of the settings.
The Premium Shower Handle with replaceable Filter didn't have this problem-it just worked as a normal shower head with normal pressure controlled by your taps.
My advice, wait until there is new stock of the Premium Shower Handle with replaceable Filter. The multi-function one is rubbish and after a week of use,I replaced it with something else.
