Incredibly rare these days; beautifully kept, fantastic homecooked food & a great pint. What more can you ask for from a local, independent pub? Very family friendly with large garden, duck pond & stunning views; regularly full of locals & visitors alike.

Having last visited before Covid (3 1/2 years ago now) I was looking forward to going back to Lingen and the Royal George as the surrounding countryside is beautiful with excellent paths for walking and ending the day at the pub for a beer and a meal.
Things had changed since I was last there though. All dining tables now with just a few bar stools so it looks like it's more of a foodie place now. We did take the precaution of booking a table the previous evening and on arrival the staff were very friendly.
The mushroom soup I had as a starter was only just warm and not very enjoyable to say the least (I just left it). When it was taken away, no enquiry was made as to why it had been left. The fish and chips I had as a main course was lovely with the fish having a nice crispy beer batter. The chips were lovely chunky chips, however, the portion was very mean as the small bowl that I thought was just for me turned out to be for three us!
I ordered Apple Crumble and custard for my dessert. Although very nice, it was a tiny amount of crumble with a tiny jug of custard. At £8 for the dessert, I thought this very expensive for what it was. It is probably a sign of the times but I felt very disappointed. I can say there was a nice atmosphere in the place and the toilets were clean and tidy.
Overall, I felt a little disappointed.

Great. Lovely friendly staff. The food was excellent, best pot pie ever, big fluffy puff pastry, great quality food, lovely chunky crunchy chips, big portions and really nice selection of real ales.
