Stopped here for lunch on a lovely Sunday lunch time. As the weather was good, the pub was very busy. Found a table in the garden /patio area which suited us with 3 dogs. Dogs are allowed inside too in most areas. Large selection of food. We had mushroom and brie ciabata which came with salad and lattice fries. Nice salad and dressing. Food came out really quickly. Sometimes a worry when that is the case but everything seemed hot and fresh. Inside the building is quirky and historic. There is parking across the road specifically for patrons which was quite muddy in places. Lovely area for walking your dog at. We walked along the sea wall.

Lovely pub. Stopped off here during a 10 mile walk around Goldhanger. Friendly staff and a fair selection of ales.
Thinking of visiting again for a meal in the near future

I visited the Chequers for the first time. It is a delightful pub set in a lovely village. The Food is Excellent and the Staff so friendly and accommodating. During my visit a group of Classic Cars arrived and then the Morris Men and Women started dancing outside the pub. There are beautiful walks around the village and on the estuary wall. I had a wonderful time and highly recommend to anyone this lovely pub and village. Cannot wait to visit again!

The owner Dominic was most helpful and his staff were very friendly and efficient.
We had a really lovely meal, which we choose from the varied menu and ate in the spacious courtyard. It was hard to pick a dessert as they all sounded yummy!
A really lovely pub in a quiet village location, close to the coast.

So disappointing. Food used to be top notch. No longer. Microwaved to extinction, poorly presented with no taste or pleasure. Child's plate was scalding hot, vegetarian dish a pile of slop. Used to go weekly or more. Never again.

Dom and the team offer a super friendly warm welcome. Food is excellent and real fires make it nice and cosy. Dogs allowed in the smaller bars.

Just what a country pub should be. Quaint & cozy with a roaring fire, welcoming staff & good food. We were here for lunch & had the jumbo fish & chips…delicious. The pub does have a car park but we walked from Heybridge Basin. A great 5 mile walk, mostly flat, along the coastal path. There are a couple of cafes about 2 miles out from Heybridge Basin, so you can break the walk if required. Beware that, unless you want to walk back as we did, the buses are infrequent & taxis aren’t always available. It’s an awesome 10 miles round trip walk with a great pub lunch in the middle.

We were very disappointed in the service and the length of time it took between courses.we as a party of eight who had preordered our menu choices had Hard vegetables some of the mains were not up to scratch we were sat in a cold corner with little heating where the main room had a beautiful open fire .
After complaining we were given our drinks for free but a smile would have gone a long way.
Such a shame as have had some great times there.
