Lovely welcoming old pub which is undergoing renovations. Manager is fabulous and accommodating, if you want different sports on. 3 ales are on: pucks folly, ghost ship and London pride. Good selection of bottled ales. Outdoor seating, weekly darts team and the locals speak to you!

A good pub and a nice renovation, with a decent upgrade to the toilets. Decent priced drinks. Pretty good tvs for sport however the pool table has disappeared a while back. A jukebox and a dart board remain. Ok if a little quiet at times.

The choice of real ales was limited to 2 when I visited in November and neither of them was on very good condition. I was in company of nine other people and they were in general agreement although one of them, being a lager drinker, was reasonably happy with the beer.
The pub is nothing fancy but is typical of the traditional local boozer. There are TVs for sports fans.

Not a bad pub. We found a nice table to sit at on a Saturday evening and they had a decent range of real ale. It wasn't too noisy and there was a pleasant atmosphere. Staff were pleasant. However, one pint of Oscar Wilde mild we had was awful - it tasted of pipe cleaning fluid. It was blatantly a bad pint. Normally you'd expect that to be changed without a fuss but the landlady came over and refused to change it because she said others had had it and not complained. She tasted a little and said it seemed ok. Well, it wasn't. So that attitude loses her a couple of stars but that incident aside, not a bad pub.

First time I've been in the pub. Only wanted a quick drink before catching a train home. It was nice to be able to get into one in Chelmsford on a Friday evening without having to run the gauntlet of bouncers on the door almost making you feel unwelcome. Decent atmosphere & good pint. That's all I wanted.

Great old school boozer but a very bland range of beers. The pool table is a nice addition. Just a shame of the beer quality.
