Lovely pub in the village of Penn Street, Amersham - in the heart of the Chilterns AONB. The food and service were excellent. This is a great place to have bite to eat before a day of walking in the surrounding woods and trails. Highly recommended.

This is the second time I've visited the pub. The food is lovely, decor cosy and staff are friendly. It is pretty disorganised though and could do with someone getting the ship in order a bit more. When you walk in you have to ask for a menu,
it's not clear whether you have to order at the bar or not.Staff need to be more assertive and lead customers to where they should be or where they need to sit etc. During both visits, our order came to the table with dishes missing. Aside from that, very nice. Leaving this review to try an help improve things as it is a shame...

Sunday lunch was a solid 8/10 for the chicken which came with decent roast potatoes (not too crispy on the outside), excellent vegetables (beautifully cooked carrots, green beans, cabbage), a good amount of chicken on and off the bone. Let down by the lack of a Yorkshire pudding, ordinarily I’d be insulted by that, but the super pork (?) crackling on top of the chicken and the weirdly square and thin slab of slightly toasty stuffing, I think that’s what it was. It was good.

Beers on tap all decent. Nice atmosphere, lovely service, little garden out back, dog-friendly - look forward to coming back some time.

Lovely location opposite the village cricket pitch. Plenty of outside seating. Friendly staff and tasty food. Worth a visit if in the area

One of Britain's best gastro pubs... a true rustic village pub gem with leather sofas, log fires, a large beer garden and a menu of fine British grub.

The appearance invited us in to what is a very warming and cozy atmosphere. I only stayed for a drink but look forward to visiting again as the menu looks very inviting.

Great food and atmosphere. Really lovely member of staff behind the bar. Didn't catch his name but just seemed like a lovely person.
