Good food and the service was rapid! Dog-friendly with inside and outside seating options. Unfortunately the car park was almost full, finding a space was a challenge and some of the spaces aren't quite car-sized but once we got in, our visit was pleasant.

We had visited the Queen Victoria many years ago and loved it and as the opportunity arose to meet family passing through the area this weekend we took a punt on it being good still and booked in to have lunch. Turned out to be an excellent idea!

The food is delightful, good portion sizes, lots of choice and tasty. Think it's the first place I've had halloumi fries where they've stayed hot because they have the sense to serve them in a hot tapas type dish.
The main event for me was the beef shin and ale pie - one of the nicest pies I've ever had with plenty of fresh veg and a hearty serving of mash and gravy.

We actually skipped dessert because they were running a Macmillan Coffee Morning cake stall and so for a donation we tucked in to delicious home made cakes instead.

Food aside, a pub/restaurant is not a place without its staff and there is a noticeable difference to the places we usually visit in more central London zones. The team are friendly, helpful, and run like clockwork. Wish more places had a team like them - big shout out to Petra and the young guy in her team for looking after us!

It has a sizable outdoor seating area and a car park, though it's only a 5 min walk from the tube station.

As you can tell, I am a fan and would not hesitate to recommend visiting. Had I not had kids as part of the party meeting up then I would have loved to have settled in to their lovely bar area for a drink, it looked very comfortable!

A very nice surprise for having vegetarian friendly pub food.
Calories are included on the menu which is a very nice touch.
Portion sizes are inconsistent with chips, starter and desert were of perfect size!
The place itself is very spacious and has a very nice atmosphere.

Starter: 4/5
Main: 2/5 (chips on the side 4.5/5)
Desert: 5/5

Starter was very very nice and very enjoyable.

The vegetarian burger was not terrible, it was better than expected of veggie burgers, but a few issues: buns were toasted (buns were coloured) but were cold themselves, like they came out of the fridge. Burger overall was rather dry and tall making it hard to eat. Pattie was fine and actually better than alot i find but by itself it was not enough.

What was really nice were the chips. They were most excellent, crunchy on the outside but soft on the inside. Chips brought back this. Very well done.

But the real star was the desert, the crumble was one of the best i have ever had and i generally dislike custard but the whole thing was most excellent. If you like a great crumble, its well worth a trip just for the starter, chips and that alone. Very very impressive.

Very unfriendly and unreasonable bar manager.
Asked a polite group of professionals to leave, with made up excuses. Took away the drinks that they'd bought away from their table before finishing. Had earlier refused to serve food. We have eaten here many times before, and the food was always good - so such a shame that food wasn't available and they decided to offer only crisps.

However, it seems that regulars could get some burgers without an issue.

There's a reason the pub was near empty.

Obviously, uncomfortable with larger groups of visitors. We've witnessed this same attitude here in the Summer. All we wanted to do was sit and chat with a few drinks and some burgers, with the football in the background. Sadly, the manager took against us.

We were happily welcomed by the nearby Bull who had been notified of our imminent arrival. They were more than happy to take our money and it was a much friendlier pub.

It's a weird place! We went in to get some food while we were in the area. There are seemingly three parts - the locals part where you walk in and everyone stares at you because you aren't a local, the part where you can sit down and either have a drink or some food, and the restaurant.

The food was pretty decent. There was lots of choice, and the meals were hot and seemed fresh. The sausages and steak were both good quality.

The barman was friendly and welcoming. They had a decent cross-section of beers and catered for most people.

We went on a Monday afternoon - they served food until 3pm.

The biggest annoyance were the people stood right at the door smoking - both when we arrived and when we left. They were so close to the door they had to move so we could get past!

Great Sunday roast as always. By far my favouritest pub ever. The lamb shank was amazing and the staff friendly and helpful. 5/5

This was our first visit to the Queen Victoria in Theydon Bois and I can honestly say that it won’t be our last. We’d been wanting to come for a while and on Sunday we finally had the chance. The result was very positive with great food , good service and a very friendly atmosphere.

The pub is situated in the heart of Theydon Bois with ample parking at the front and rear. As you enter there is the bar area on the right with the dining room with table service on the left. But you can actually eat anywhere including outside. When we arrived we received a nice friendly welcome before we were shown to our table. We then ordered a drink while we looked at the menus to which there was a choice of the main menu as well as the addition of a selection of sunday roasts.

We decided to start with a selection of crusty bread which came with balsamic , olive oil & butter.

For our starters we chose the Stilton Pork Pie accompanied with watercress & piccalilli as well as the Posh Whitebait with smoked paprika , homemade tartare sauce , crispy kale & lemon. These were to delightful dishes and a great way to begin.

Now it was time for our roasts. My wife chose the Slow Roasted Lamb Shank. For myself i chose to have the Hand Carved Roasted Sirloin of Beef. The roasts came with braised red cabbage , seasonal vegetables , roast potatoes , yorkshire pudding & gravy. You could also add items to your roast and I just couldn’t resist so opted to add cauliflower cheese & pork loin to create a monster of a roast dinner.

It was now time to finish with two fabulous desserts and for these we chose the Salted Caramel Profiteroles with chocolate sauce and the Apple Crumble Tart with oats , cinnamon & vanilla ice cream.

We finished with a coffee to bring to an end a great sunday lunch. The food was very good and was matched by friendly service from all the staff but especially our waitress Natalie who was excellent and a credit to the hospitality industry. I would definitely recommend a visit and are looking forward returning again soon to try the food from the main menu.

Many Thanks to all the team for a fabulous lunch and look forward to seeing you all again soon.
