Looking forward to returning
It is a very nice space , very well decorated. It has an very nice room on the top of the building which could be a stunning place to do parties. It is very clean, and well kept and maintained. I love how they display the flowers around.
Unfortunately I had a very disappointing and even embarrassing experience at the Williams Morris at Abbey Mills.
My Mother came from Brazil to visit us. I took her and my daughter to a walk beside the little channel (river?) and we decided to stop by the Abbey mills to have something to eat.
My mother liked the pub because of the views. I am not aware how the system for ordering is and I came to the bar to order. The girl very ruddily said that she would not serve me without a table number. Since we did not know about the system we had not chosen a table and nobody came to help us. She was very rude though and have not showed any willing on helping or explaining how things works , she just was rude by the fact we did not have a table number.
I have finally found a table, and after we sat another server came to us and said she would take the order by the table ( seriously? the other server could have explained it to us?????).
After having the meal, another server that we have not met before came to the table and asked if he could clean the table. I have asked him if he could bring also the bill. He brough the bill and the card machine and I paid and left the ticket on the table. He was very polite.
My elderly mother who walks very slowly requested to use the toilet, so me and my daughter sat at the table near to the toilet door to wait. Meanwhile, the second server ( that one that took us the order at the table), came to me with a bill on her hand, I though she was bringing the ticket I left on the table, and I said thanks ( I did not quite understood but I though she was trying to be helpful and I putted that one my purse). However her face changed and she was looking to me with those killer eyes!!!!!!!!!. I was there for more 5 minutes until my mother came out and this lady came to me shouting and very aggressively that I had to PAY. She did not even tried to not embarrass us. at that moment, EVERYONE in that place were looking at us! She could have done this differently.
I explained that one of her colleagues took the payment, she was shouting "WHO???"I was looking around to see if I could see him, I could not. I believe the manager also showed up at that moment and the first lady that were very rude also came to that side of the bar.
So I calmly said, "I can't see him around, but I can j show you the payment from my bank app." So I took my phone out and I showed her. She was quite embarrassed, and apologised. The gent I believe was the manager also apologised. I said it was ok. But we know that it was NOT OK!
Well I have almost 20 years of experience in hospitality. There are quite few lessons that can be taken from this situation:
1-Lack of communication is a big issue
2- Costumer service training is quite important.
3- Never shout at customer face
4- Don't assume that the customer know the system you operate in your restaurant, and always try to help them in case they need
5- Always check before accusing your customer, specially if they are not running.
Unfortunately, this experience putted me off. I will never be Back. But I believe people should come and try. It is a very nice place, very nice food and nice views. Hopefully they can learn with this and improve. I am certain they will and I believe they will do their best,
