Wow! What an amazing transformation of a let's be honest of a pub you really wouldn't go out of your way to go in before. When we entered we just sat there for a good half hour taking it all in and trying to work out where all the old walls used to be, turns out we was sat on the pool table. Was a very busy night for food when we went in which the barman had warned us would mean the food would take around 20 min to come (which we thought was good anyway) the ordering process was quick and easy with the barmen coming over to the table and taking your order and payment then and there. Started with the sharing nachos which I think are some of the best nachos I have ever eaten! There was just the perfect amout of chilli to nacho and cheese ratio! The barmen asked us if we would like our main with the nachos but we said no we will wait which I thought would mean our food would come out cold and dry.... Oh I was wrong. I chose the chicken and mayo burger which came with chips and side salad and it came out red hot which you just don't get anywhere any more. Was a very very nice meal with very good service which I just hope will continue as the years go on. I am also very looking forward to the summer when all the glass doors are open looking over the river. Would recommend to anyone. 😊

This pub dates back to 1805, so you can’t accuse it of having lacking history; though in the meantime it has taken on some fairly substantial gastro-pub/bar upgrades that somewhat betray that fact it is over two hundred years old.

Regardless, prices are reasonable, service is good and it has a great location not far from the sea. Recommended.

If you found my review or photos helpful, please give a quick thumbs up 👍 Thanks!

The food was really poor. Fries and salad were okay but cod and scampi were just awful. I will not be returning.

Group of six were down in Dover for a football match, and arranged to meet here as I discovered this fine place on google and was not disappointed. Exceptional quality finishing both inside and outside and was luckily enough to be able to seat outside on the decking as it was 20c plus on a barmy October afternoon. A few of the beers were not available due to issues beyond control, which was the only downside, but we are in a strange place at this time. 4 of us had the chicken and beef burgers which were absolutely lovely and very well presented. Would definitely visit again if back in the area

Booked to visit on 27th December. Photos do not match reality. Needed to ask for the menu. The chicken burger was a massive chicken breast. Cutlery was dirty, needed to ask for replacement. Generally not a good experience. Not recommended.

Fantastic place to sit, relax, and chat over lunch, which was fabulous. We sat outside by the side of The River Dour. .. Top class service from Bob & staff.. We shall definitely visit next time we're shopping at M&S
In St James's.. 😎
