The Star

Popped in for an impromptu lunch with a friend and found that the new owners had done a lovely job giving The star a new lease of life.

We chose from the set lunch menu which has a very good selection to accommodate all palettes.

The three of us chose to share the a couple of very tasty crispy squid with chilli mayo.

To follow we all had the double chuck and rib cheeseburger with triple cooked chips… The chips were to die for and a haven’t tasted a burger with as much flavours and taste since the legendary Guildford Brett’s Burgers closed their doors many years ago.

I can also recommend the mint-choc I’ve cream, which seemed to be a fresh homemade vanilla base with After Eight mint pieces stirred through.. Yum!

The staff were all very attentive and lovely too.

Went for Sunday lunch after having a drink there the weekend before. Beautiful renovation and 100% better than before under the old management. The food was wonderful (you have to try the beef shin pasties) and the service exceptional. Thanks to Mark, Craig and Erin for your attentiveness and making us so welcome (Erin you make the best espresso martinis!). Will be back very soon

We've recently moved to Witley and were excited to see The Star open after its renovation. We went today for Sunday lunch and it was absolutely superb. We last minute changed our booking to see if we could accommodate bringing our dog, which the staff did without hassle, even though they were in for a very busy Sunday. We all had a roast, including our 5 year old. The food was outstanding, every element from the main event to all the sides. The service was excellent from start to finish and we've already booked to return again.

The Star is newly refurbished and very smart. Taller customers need to watch the low beams.
Really wanted to love The Star and there are many things to commend it. The independent group of pubs it belongs to pride themselves on good hospitality and this is clearly obvious. Staff were friendly, accomodating, plentiful and attentive. Definitely felt welcomed and special.

Drinks choice is good.

Food menu is OK. The choice is pretty good but no standout winners. We arrived 8pm on a Friday and almost all of the specials were unavailable; bit disappointing. Prices are mid-to-high which is normal in the area. In fact you cant help thinking that prices are set by comparison to others rather than to achieve best value.

Overall a pleasant evening and would go again. But to give it 5 stars I would hope to see just a few more interesting items on the menu and keener pricing.

Great, family friendly gastro pub. Lots of indoor and outdoor space. Great menu for food and drink as well as good friendly service

The venue looks great and the service was very good. The menu is slightly obscure and not sure would make me visit that often. The lighting in the bar area is far too bright, which is a shame as there is some great dim lighting in the restaurant area. But the quality of food and service made up for those negatives.

Love this little countryside pub. The renovations they've done are amazing and the pub looks picture perfect, everywhere! Food is at a great price for what you get and good wine and beers on offer. Very generous portions and fabulous staff! Can highly recommend and will come back for sure! Well done everyone at The Star!

We had a wonderful meal at The Star, the service was great and the staff were very attentive. The food was delicious and very quick. They unfortunately ran out of the dessert that I wanted and so instead Craig very kindly made a desert that was off the menu for me. We were very impressed and really enjoyed our meal, we will definitely be back!
