Popped in for a drink. Very nice cool pint of Guinness . The food looks amazing so will give it a try another day while we are here....Been back tonight for food and not disappointed . The Stone bass was superb. The staff were very welcoming and attentive without being pushy and we really enjoyed it. The local lager was even better than the Guinness.

Food and drink was excellent and the interior of the pub/restaurant was nicely done. We also stayed in the accommodation for two nights and that wasn’t so good. Our room was over the kitchen so it was really hot, and with the single small window open to try to cool it there was a lot of noise from the various extractors, condensers etc.

I was impressed with the food. A good selection of meat, fish and vegetarian dishes for both starters and mains with wide range of drinks.

However. I'm only scoring 3* due to the POOR service my guests and I experienced that evening. Wrong things were brought to the table, and the length of time waiting for things was somewhat long.

However, the worse thing that spoilt the evening was the whole attitude and behaviour of the male waiters. It was immature and so insincere. It seems as if serving us was all a bit of a joke to them. There was a sense of mockery too coming from the group of young male waiters towards the other guests on my table. The young female waiter, however, was far more responsible.

As mentioned already , the food was good. I would definitely think twice, though, about going to The Ship Inn again.

Stayed here for one night during the jazz festival. The room was clean and cosy ( you have to be prepared for sloping floors etc as the building is pretty old). The bed was massive and comfortable and the breakfast was excellent. Would recommend.

Had a walk-in table for Sunday lunch after being let down by another restaurant for a friend’s birthday. Waited a significant amount of time for drinks and food, including 30 minutes for some ice-cream and warmed up apple cake. Beer was flat, and other customers were either walking out before ordering or waiting an hour for their meals. Waiting staff appeared very uncoordinated, both amongst themselves and with the kitchen staff. Kitchen ran out of most meals by 3:30/4pm.
Although food when it arrived was lovely and generous portions, the overall experience was not an enjoyable one.

Unfortunately our booked well in advance restaurant dinner was disappointing.
Most of the main dishes from Sunday menu were gone and we were not told about it.
Staff were not very attentive and we heard a lot of swearing coming from two young male members of staff.
We ended up paying £95 bill for food (and some drinks) we didn't fancy because that's all they had and it was too late to go somewhere else.

If they were busy that day I'd appreciate a phonecall asking if we know what we wanted to eat.

Breakfast was very nice.

Amazing staff!!! All were attentive to our needs, particularly Charlie, who served us all night. Everyone serving gave 110% along with exceptional food and wine. We will definitely be back!
