The Royal Standard

Typical rough estate pub with a firmly-established local clientele who don't appear to relish the idea of strangers walking into 'their' pub. The whole pub could stand a paint job, a bit of TLC and a bloody good clean. Welcome was brusque, beer was just about adequate. Well below average.

I have been going to The Royal Standard now for around 2 years and have never had a bad thing to say about them they welcomed in the pub the first day i entered. And i started playing for the Pool team i even get asked to play in darts some times if they are short of players.

This pub is genuine and you can always count on having fun and jokes with the Staff or anybody that comes into the pub.

If your looking for a no nonsense good old fashioned pub this is it. Chick and Rosie are both friendly and fun staff. Not forgetting Ozzy the dog. The price of a pint is great and being a new comer to the west country I haven't met one unwelcoming patron yet. Superb pub.

One of the cleanest pub I have been in, and with the the friendiest of staff to boot. It could be because of the time of my visit, wish I doubt very much. Even the game area was very clean and the pool table as clean and inviting as new. Oh, the coffee was very cheap at £1.

It's a long time since I called in here, very pleasantly surprised, has had a compete overhaul, quite a modern trendy feel to the place now. Clean with friendly service.

Was a good pub but looks like it's closed for good

I go to the Standard regularly. I enjoy the atmosphere, the people and find the staff extremely friendly. Furthermore, the beer is well kept and prices reasonable.
