Pros:
- Excellent range of equipment for a hotel gym.
- Free entry to classes with membership. Also a good range of classes.
- Free use of pool, sauna, steam room etc. with the level of membership I pay.
- Good vibe. I really like the fitness club feel to the place. People all ages, shapes, sizes going there to hit their goals and enjoy the facilities.
- The gym itself is clean and well maintained.
Cons:
- Whilst some staff are very friendly, some do not go out of their way to say 'hello'. This might sound picky but I've never been to a gym before where there can be three members of staff on the reception desk and you get 0 acknowledgement on your way in.
- The place is well staffed enough that I would expect a higher level of cleanliness in the pool and changing areas. I find it useable but sometimes only just.
I have been ill so wasn’t able to go for over 6 months and have been diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis but kept paying monthly hoping each month I’d be well enough to go the next. I started to be able to move a bit more and my physio advised I try and swim. Now Covid restrictions have gone they no longer use booking slots for the pool. I try and go on a Saturday and Sunday as I still would not be well enough to manage exercise around work in the week which I’ve only just returned too. The only adult slot is between 12 and 2 which is disappointing because it’s the hardest time to go swimming. I have other health issues that mean I need to wake up at a set time, take meds at a set time and eat at a set time. I tried going Saturday afternoon for the non adults only time and the pool had swimming lessons on and they put big floats in the pool for children but as it’s a small pool even with me trying to swim against the side of the pool children kept bumping into me. Ive tried getting to the pool on Sunday to swim before 2 in the adults only time twice and children have been allowed in early both times. To make it at that time I had to skip breakfast and instead have a big lunch and go swimming directly after which made me feel a bit sick.
A lot of adults paying full membership likely work in the week and want to have a chance to use the pool at the weekend and I don’t think 12-2 is ideal for anyone. If we can please have an hour slot mid morning and mid afternoon and keep the rest family friendly then I feel it would be more fair or use the barrier that they do for swimming lessons to allow adults who want to lane swim a chance too in a small area and the families can use the big area or even go back to booking slots so there’s enough room in the pool for everyone.
I just feel like I’m paying a lot and then not able to use my membership now I actually finally can and need to for my health after paying for 6 months and not using it I’d have cancelled had I have known it would be like this post Covid restrictions
.
I had a PT session with Laura Lewis which has totally changed the way I think about exercise. I had a PT session with trainer Laura Lewis which had totally changed the way I think about exercise. The help she gave me was priceless
The only issue I have is that the pool can be a bit busy at times, so I have had to do something else, but there is plenty to do, so this is not a major problem.
Thanks Nicola and Mod, amazing customer service.
MALE CHANGING ROOMS - 6am coming in to find toilets soaked in urine, no toilet roll, no locks on some of the showers and toilet and hair clogging the drains in the showers, isn’t great.
BURN ROOM - has now been filled with new equipment. In my opinion this has actually taken away from myself, and other members, the adequate floor space to exercise. When a class is taking place within that room, there is no space to exercise at all.
Water fountains are constantly not working, so you get to stay dehydrated for your workout,
POOL - There mold all around the steam room walls, broken tiles including the steps into there tiny hot tube.
Staff are always friendly, spin classes are really good, members are really friendly and location is great but it’s definitely not a £50PCM gym by any means.
