Obviously I’ve been quite a few times and was overjoyed by what was on offer. Not only a wonderful bakery and cafe, but even a small grocery cart with long missed brands and items from home! Chocolate, cheese, biscuits, and even meats from Switzerland, as well as the essential Rösti! All my favourites like Cailler (greatest chocolate in the world!), Kagi, Stalden, Torino and Ragusa, as well as the classic potato crisps. As a Basler it’s great to sometimes see some Basler Läckerli, and even some Appenzeller Biberli. Plenty of fresh and famous Swiss cheese, and of course nothing beats a cold refreshing Rivella on a hot day! Really very handy if I’ve run out of certain items since my last trip back home and have a craving for something! Not only is this fantastic for me, but it warms my heart knowing people from the area can now try some delicious Swiss brands! Prices are very fair considering it has to be imported and from an obviously very expensive country. The selection seems to change slightly between visits which is nice but I’d love to see even more items to treat myself to.
As for the bakery itself, well the other reviews speak for themselves… delicious fresh bread, including my favourite Zopf and Wegglis, and scrumptious sweet treats that are popular in Switzerland. Quality is always top notch and fresh, and always so hard to pick only one thing to eat! As with any good quality bakery where stuff is made fresh, it’s important to come as early as possible especially on weekends for a full selection. I have also been in an hour before closing time and there are still plenty of options to choose from, but if you want something in particular try and be as early as possible. I would suggest their cinnamon bun, which is made the Swiss way, delicious Linzertorte (which is Austrian but very popular in Switzerland too) and their carrot cake (Rueblikuchen), which is not like English carrot cake, it’s far better ;)
There’s a few tables and chairs inside the bakery, as well as a few outside as well to sit and eat. Really friendly and warm atmosphere and the staff are always lovely. From Switzerland themselves, I feel like this place is a mini embassy of sorts as I always feel at home here. For the local community they have gained a delicious, great quality bakery which is nice, but for Swiss expats in the UK this means so much as this is the only such place in all of London…
I can’t believe my luck that this place has opened up, I have been many times and of course will keep coming back as much as possible! Absolutely recommend this place to anyone, it’s an absolute hidden gem! Merci viel mal :)
And there is good parking available if needed but it’s also a nice surrounding area to get there on foot. I can honestly say I haven’t bought my bread in any other place than Swiss Bread Bakery since their opening just before the pandemic. And now with the impending summer holidays I make sure I have enough stock of bread and rolls in the freezer. Thank you Swiss Bread Bakery for spoiling us with such treats!
They updated a bit their menu and now you even get schnitzel and pasta for lunch here.
If you haven’t been here what are you waiting for come in and enjoy their great service and food and maybe practice a bit of Swiss deutsch
