I've not been to the head office but I've recently been reliably informed that Barclays has invested more than 104 billion in fossil fuels - more than any other bank in Europe!

I have a 3 year old son and after the most recent IPCC report I am just so worried about what kind of life he can expect by the time he's my age.

Banks like Barclays could wield huge influence in a positive direction toward a zero carbon future but its obvious they are intent on wringing every last penny from their lucrative and destructive fossil fuel investments.

Lets show them they can't get away with it! Change banks now people.. ( I can recommend Triodos as a good alternative )

I needed to go to the bank to deposit some cheques. There was no obvious signage specifying the number of customers in the bank at any time.

As there was only two customers in the bank I entered, only to be yelled at by some man sitting out of sight to get out as there were too many in. He couldn't be bothered to stand up and speak to me or say what the maximum customer numbers were.

I left and stood outside, other customers arrived and a queue formed. A lady came to the door and told everyone to get back as customers needed to leave. No customers were leaving!

She then started demanding I tell her why I needed to use the bank. I wasn't happy about discussing my business in front of everyone, but realized she was on a power trip and I would need to tell her to get in.

I was then allowed to enter, because one of the two customers in the bank was elderly and needed to sit for a while before leaving.

As I was leaving she was allowing other customers to enter before I got out.

I appreciate that restrictions are needed because of Covid, but the staff at this bank really need to take some lessons in customer care. We should not be shouted at or need to explain why we are using the bank.

UPDATE December 2021

I went to the ATM to get some cash. There was a queue and customers were struggling to use it as almost every button was broken off.

So as the bank was empty, I thought I'd pop in and get some cash at the counter. The lady told me that I had to use the ATM as they didn't give less than £300 at the counter. She wasn't interested in the condition of the ATM or that it was taking a long time to process transactions.

The bank is due to close early in 2022 and it wont be missed. The staff are lazy and very rude. My accounts will be with Lloyds before then.

Am sure staff are lovely in the bank but bosses are guilty of terrible greenwash. They claim to have committed to reducing their carbon emissions by 2050, but have actually increased funding in fossil fuel since then. Rubbish!

The IPCC report was clear that funding fossil fuel has to stop now, as in today if we are to prevent climate breakdown. Barclays funded fossil fuels to the tune of 104 million. Don't bank here!
