Came here a year ago and it was fantastic in every respect. It makes the following more surprising.

Firstly, the receptionist wanted a receipt for our meal in order to enter my car registration into their computer. I did feel obliged to point out that there was no receipt since we had neither eaten nor paid yet.

Food was lovely....BUT... I was a little surprised that the restaurant was virtually empty...and then we found out why...

1. Over one and a half hours from arrival time to being served.

2. No bread rolls as it was still being baked after over an hour and we booked yesterday.

3. Even when the rest of us were served, salmon with a poached egg was 10 minutes late as the chef was cooking a soft boiled egg. (10 minutes to boil an egg ?????!). When the salmon did come out, it was smothered in pepper despite being specifically requested otherwise due to an allergy concern.

They were very apologetic and quite happy not to charge for the meal in question.

I haven't seen such abysmal service in a long time. A prime candidate for a Gordon Ramsay show? You couldn't make this up.

Hmmmm.

Ordered food. An hour half later still waiting and no persons in the restaurant. No one bothered to tell us what the delay was but plied us with breads and dips. When we enquired told the tomahawk steaks were not cooked properly as still frozen! Really poor service and the we ended up walking away starving!

The food was edible but for the price you expect better. Ordered the rib eye steak medium rare which was around £25, but it wasnt seared with any sort of crust. Ordered a peppercorn sauce with it and it was overly salty and quite runny. Would expect a much creamier sauce. So yeah it was edible but I can see why it was a virtually empty restaurant, even by hotel standards.

The reception and Breakfast Staff were ABSOLUTELY LOVELY , down to earth, friendly , helpful , and hardworking... We had a wonderful experience to celebrate a birthday, and yes staff of Mariot we SHALL be back.X😘
Little heads up. When you do go for breakfast , please be patient and listen to what info they tell you by the wait here sign. Only doing their job as best they can. As we did notice a few wandering around aimlessly looking for plates..but they DO tell you they keep them under a black lid RIGHT BY the hot breakfast buffet to keep them warm for us 😀👍🏻♨️..( And there is only so many info signs they can put out.)
The breakfast food choice and quality is excillent and very satisfing. Also a nice bar to have a drink in next to it.
So nothing bad what so ever to say just A HUGE THANKYOU to all the staff there for making our stay a brilliant one.👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
AND on a 2nd visit, i would write the same review, except we stayed in and had our Main evening meal in their resturant , and enjoyed it just as much. Also BIG THANKYOU to bar staff, down to earth and lovely to have a laugh while they worked making our stay even more enjoyable. Thankyou again.

Great portion size. Very friendly and attentive staff. Accommodated our odd request! I would definitely recommend trying the cast iron burger stack! Exceptionally good wine selection to boot.

There are two types of hotel food
Hotel restaurants and Restaurants in hotels
Both have there place but the price should reflect the standard . This one is a hotel restaurant. Nothing wrong with that. The branding trying to make you think it more of a restaurant

Limited menu which fine but prices of the steaks suggest high end which it isn’t

As it goes I went for squid starters and fish and chips main

Start er very nice - Main ok.

£14 for fish and chips ? Fish very nice and fresh chips frozen. Could have made the whole experience with some hand cut chips. The tartare sauce has obviously been sat in it pot for a while. It had green haze from sitting. Again nothing wrong there but keep it in large bowl and make small portions when serving. Make the customer thinking freshly made

Service staff very good have enough attention but not annoying. You do girl learning the rope made a few silly mistake as expected but very apologetic and will make a fine server with some experience and less nervous

3 out of five for me
Food ok but overpriced
Staff very nice
Type of pomace you eat if can’t be bothered leaving the hotel but that’s about it

Always good, even allowing for one sub-standard rump steak one evening in late October. Friendly, efficient, intelligent and well-led staff, both morning and evening. We shall return. OCT2021.
