Whitsun Bank Holiday weekend, where in North Wales have we never visited before..?
A quick peek on the Airbnb site and what's this? Ruthin?
Never been there, I wonder...
A Friday night drive up the M6 and M54 is rarely something to look forward to, but a treat awaited at our destination!
We were greeted by our hosts at the gate, and twinkling lights lit our path through the garden to a front door framed by fragrant wisteria.

Straight up to our rooms - good sizes and decorated in a tasteful boutique style in muted relaxing tones, great feeling fabrics and spotlessly clean - then quick introductions and breakfast time arranged.
Our bed was large and just right.
We had booked a separate room for our 12 y/o son and he was chuffed to bits with his big bed, en-suite and hot chocolate with home-made cookies.
Both rooms are in a separate "wing" with their own corridor to the landing and in the morning, the sunlight streamed in, showing great views and plenty of bird life.

As we opened the adjoining door to the landing, the smell of freshly baked bread wafted up to invite us downstairs. Mmm...

Marilyn and Dave offer a really tasty full breakfast to set up the day, complete with eggs from their hens. We took turns with the fish cake options and finished off plenty of toast slathered with butter. They have a selection of home-made jams and marmalade to sample. Which we did, and bought some to take home. Nom nom nom!

We took advantage of their local knowledge and enjoyed the craft centre, gaol and artist trail in Ruthin, as well as some good eateries. There really is plenty to see and do - tracking down the rooftop figures was great fun.

Outside the front door, our hosts had a nest box set up, with webcam to view a family of blue tits and we watched their progress with interest. The chicks were very close to fledging by the end of our short stay, hope that they are enjoying their surroundings as much as we did.

The scenic location is not all you'll get if you stay here - with friendly hosts (who have great tips about the surrounding area) and well appointed rooms you're sure to enjoy your stay. The breakfast is also a highlight with locally sourced eggs and smallgoods, as well as homemade bread and preserves - you'll be full and happy until mid afternoon! Would definitely reccomend.

A quiet but beautiful cottage very close to the town of Ruthin in Wales.
The owners are a lovely couple providing a good tea tray, television, fine breakfast and attentiveness.
I strongly recommend this establishment if you, as we did, want somewhere quiet to stay.

Beautiful, Charming and Delicious. Cottage and surrounding area are stunning, grounds are in immaculate condition, convenient parking for two/three cars. Cottage is tastefully decorated and very well maintained and clean. Breakfast was incredible, we tried both fish (salmon cakes) and traditional options, home baked bread and preserves were outstanding. Owners Marilyn & Dave are welcoming and generous, with second to non knowlage of Northern Wales and beyond, delightful people. ***Cottage is available for direct bookings via their website and it's worth double the asking price.... Seriously, it is that good.
Easter Bank Holiday 2019, Thank you
