The Bear

Positive: Very nice place, handily placed for visiting the red kite feeding station at Gigrin Farm, as well as visiting and touring the Elan Valley. Very good Covid precautions in place. Very friendly and chatty owners. Great breakfast.. Negative: The room took a while to warm up and the toilet made some strange noises! But no real problems..

Positive: Proprietor very helpful and friendly. Breakfast was well cooked and presented but (see note below). Room comfortable and very clean.. Negative: It would have been a good touch if Welsh butter, tea and local jams/honey were used at breakfast..

It seems that the people at the Bear are very judgemental. They turned my overweight friend away, who had booked and paid a room there, saying the room was not suitable for them. They left them to either go home or find another accommodation elsewhere, last minute, on a busy weekend. I can not understand such antisocial behaviour. Gladly my friend found something much nicer a few doors down the street.

Update on reply:
Their own bathroom is smaller than the one your room had and they mentioned that this bathroom was totally suitable for them. When the person then said oh I might need to travel back home then your inappropriate reply was: That's a good idea. So, I do think I have the full story and it was quite upsetting for them.

Just home after 2 nights at The Bear. Sian was a great host, very welcoming. The building is old and they have managed to keep a lot of the original fixtures whilst also bringing it up to date which is lovely. Its a few minutes walk from pubs etc for evening meals/entertainment and the perfect spot for exploring The Elan Valley. Our room was clean and comfortable, it had everything we needed. We had a full Welsh breakfast both days it was fab, good quality ingredients...All freshly cooked for us so was lovely and hot. If in the area again we would definitely book The Bear again.

Wonderful room clean and tidy. Sian was a very nice host. Only had 4 stars for room as we could hear the man/women next-door to us snoring.

Nice comfy stay in a well equipped room .Good host .Couldn't give it 5 stars as the adjoining room party wall was lacking any sort of sound proofing .

Very helpful and welcoming host (Sian), good central location in Rhayader, good off-street parking for motorcycles. Well presented room, clean and tidy. Tea and coffee making facilities.

Very good breakfast served (costs extra but worth it).

If in the area again, would definitely stay here.

We had to cancel at the last moment. We were just under the declared 48 hours and they charged us for it. And it seems that the room was then re let
