High Street Books is everything you would want of a second hand bookshop. It heaves and reeks of books, good old hard copy books with their own stories and histories. It's a rabbit warren of place with rooms leading onto rooms all with groaning bookshelves covering all sorts of subjects, absolutely ideal browsing territory as you come across subjects, ideas and discourses to make you think and ponder so much that before you know it you've spent hours there. That said in the winter it can be perishing cold in the nether regions but still the urge to see what's on the next shelves drives you on. The owner, Geoff Tyson is brilliant, always happy to chat about anything and everything. Prices are reasonable. Wide ranging and changing stock but really good for history, especially military history, maritime, UK stuff, Folio editions, railways, natural history and, er, erotica...What more do you want? My favourite bookshop in the UK.

Brilliant old fashioned second-hand book shop

Well-stocked, enchanting and worth crossing Devon for, on foot if necessary. The Moon Under Water of bookshops.

I bought online from Highstreet Books a copy of a wonderful John Fowles book. The service was excellent - prompt postage and very carefully packed.

Visited for the first time today, exactly as a bookshop should be. Made me so happy to be a book lover, I'll be back.... For the day

Exactly what a second hand bookshop should be and a delight to visit. Little rooms, staircases, books everywhere. No snobbery about separating so-called "antiquarian" from merely second hand - they are all here together. A wide-ranging collection.
