By far the best restaurant in the area by a very long shot.
Having seen and read the very positive reviews we booked for our wedding anniversary. Baby sitters booked, children sorted we set off excitedly to the restaurant.
My wife had messaged a day or two before as she’d seen that it was Burns night to ensure that the normal Grill Menu was going to be available. A text back confirmed that whilst new additions to the menu were being severed many of the normal menu was available.
We were seated and given menus. The grill menu didn’t appear and we’d chosen the Cart Shed as we wanted to experience the Sharing Sirloin together for our anniversary.
I spoke to the waiting staff and it was confirmed that indeed the Sirloin on the Bone sharing steak was available.
The steak is advertised as average weight of 30-50oz and seeing other diners eating looked huge, so we opted for that only and was looking forward to the cheese board for dessert.
When the order was taken, the waitress explained that the kitchen was a little behind and to expect a 40 minute wait.
After an hour the manager came to the table to explain that if we wanted the Meal that we’d ordered it would be at least another 45 minutes to an hour wait or the chef would cook two ordinary steaks and that would be 25 minutes.
Miller and Carter is two miles away, if we’d have wanted ordinary we could have gone there.
It was explained that the chef had lost the ‘ticket’ which I assume means he forgot to cook our meal.
So after an hour and half wait and no food, we have arrived home, on our special night out and my wife is currently eating a toasted cheese sandwich.
Thanks for absolutely nothing Cart Shed. We put our trust in you to help us celebrate and you let us down completely.
The food looked very good, it’s just a shame that we never got to experience it. Based on this experience it is impossible to make any other recommendation that to avoid it. They couldn’t have given a toss about our ruined evening.
A suggestion maybe, if you’re going to go off menu for haggis, maybe don’t tell your guests that you’re able to cope with the normal menu, you’ve just categorically proven that you cannot.
Very disappointed and frankly there is no excuse for a chef of the experience quoted on the website.
The restaurant has a great atmosphere and I cannot wait to return!
