Liked: I had a fantastic stay at Lea Valley Almost Wild Campsite. The campsite is very tranquil and relaxing, there is a lot of room between the pitches. The area it is in is also very peaceful, right next to the river Lea. Loads of wildlife, in particular a very friendly Robin and I did, very briefly, see a Monk-Jack scamper through the undergrowth.

I stayed in one of the Woodland pitches which was very quiet and you could have easily been in a very remote place, not 20 miles from London! The amenities are basic, running water tap and the compost loos are fine. Also I cycled there into the camp with no problems.

Would defiantly recommend

Disliked: I really cant think of anything!

Had an amazing weekend here. Riverside pitch is very spacious and you can take a look through a small walkway to the river. Ranger is very friendly and will help with whatever you need. Just a heads up that your camp can be seen by others so not completely wild. The woodland pitches look amazing too especially if you want a bit more privacy. Very keen to come again!

My dogs first camping experience...

You must check in before hand to get the padlock code at the front gate.

Once on site I was greeted by Richard who personally showed me to my pitch area, answered any questions I had about the area and made some good suggestions for local pubs.

Throughout the evening Richard would take the time to check up on us and make sure we had everything we needed.

I didn't find one bit of rubbish on site and toilets where clean. One fresh water tape in the middle of site.

I would recommend this camp site on the customer service that I seem to struggle to find in England now a days and how clean it is even when it's an almost wild camp site.

Thank you Richard.

Lovely place, huge pitch area, great fire pit with benches and by the river. Not big fish but my son had fun fishing canal side for tiddlers. Very peaceful and very well looked after for anything we needed and will definitely go again . Highly recommend and our fav campsite as enjoy the open fire. Toilets composting but kept very clean and a tap for drinking water and to wash up so don’t expect showers etc but enjoy the peace and tranquility

Liked: The campsite was lovely, the pitches were huge and it was lovely to have a fire right next to the river. The host couldn't have been more friendly and welcoming, he was so generous and accommodating and greeted us with a fantastic smile!! There was also toilets and drinking water, which we weren't expecting!

Disliked: The pitch next to us was full of blokes who didn't quite get the "quiet" memo, so were rather raucous but that isn't the camp site's fault just our bad luck, I guess!

Thank you Camp ranger Richard. Your hospitality was fantastic. Once he knew we we're celebrating my husband's birthday he went out of his way to give our group Marsmollows and sticks to roast for the birthday party. Thanks for your hard work and the upkeep of a beautiful campsite.

Please note anyone who would like to book that this is a slightly different campsite in the sense of the type of clientele it attracts. By that I mean because the pitches are so large and spacious that this means that it attracts large groups which equals a lot of drunk people making a lot of noise! On the night we stayed there were parties and music and general loud everything until the early hours of the morning. Having camped in Canada the focus of camping is usually to relax in the peace and quiet of nature. In England or at least at this campsite it is to go with a large group of friends and play music and party and get drunk until the early hours of the morning. Noted. And this is no reflection on the campsite itself which is absolutely beautiful in a stunning spot with the nicest ranger and the nicest pitches!!
Also pitches are auto selected - this means some people get much nicer pitches than others- but overall all are nice.
I should add this wasn’t a one off group having a party - there were at least 6 or 7 parties going on that night all very loud some with music. 11pm cut off quiet hours not observed in any way.

Excellent. Small, quiet, and almost wild, though very well maintained. Super-friendly caretaker/manager, Richard. Pitches nicely spread out. My only complaint is that I could not get the gate lock open and had to phone Lee Valley for help (they contacted Richard, who came immediately). That September 2022, so maybe they've gotten a new lock since then. Also, I drove past it twice. It would be helpful is they had some sort of sign, with a symbol if they don't want to post the name.
