Been to the castle before but never inside. It was lovely. Some of the areas had added features to bring it to life. There is also a beautiful stained glass window which is worth seeing. Also the hot chocolate at the cafe is excellent especially if it's a cold day 😋

A nice place to visit with kids - the castle itself is not that incredible, being largely ruin (there is very little of the 'staircases and corridors to tear about' that kids love so much - go to Pembroke Castle, if that's your thing). The castle does have a beautiful view over the tidal pool that serves the mill on the other side, though. You can do a short circular work around the tidal pool, visiting both the castle and the mill along the way. The mill is interesting enough, with the majority of the old machinery still in place (although no longer running). There are a number of information boards explaining the milling process, and a small quern stone with some grain that you can use to try grinding flour by hand - this is always a hit with my kids.

So while neither the mill nor the castle are amazing in their own right, the two of them together (combined with the pleasant walk around the mill pool) make for a nice family afternoon out.

Fab, interesting castle ruin, ancient celtic cross, tidal mill & millpond (approx 1 mile to walk around the pond) - all well maintained with an informative paper guide (a ghost of an ape and a lady apparently haunts the castle). Food & hot/cold drinks available near Carew Castle. Souvenir shops both at the castle and the mill. Friendly staff. Free parking. *When you purchase ticket for entry at the castle, keep ticket as entry to the tidal mill is included in the price, and you will need to present the ticket to enter the mill.

Lovely ruins with lots to walk round. Free parking right on the site. Toilets and cafe. Ticket got us into the castle and mill. Dog friendly. 5 minute walk from the castle to the mill which had a voice guide to listen to and great views back up the the castle.

Lovely place to visit, great for all the family!
The castle is amazing with a very interesting history, get the guide book only £4. The Cross is also incredible and a nice walk to the Tidal Mill with fantastic views of the castle!

Sadly was an evening stroll so castle and tidal mill was closed.

The walk however is exceptional, paths clean tidy level and easily traversable. Views at sunset are well worth the trip and the evening tranquility was a needed relief to a stressful day.

Good castle with information, activities and lots of wildlife. We got there quite late so ended up not going to the mill so I would recommend carving out a few hours of you want to visit here. Good amount of info on the castle itself in the guide and has a nice flow to exploring it. Dog friendly as well and looks like it has a nice gift shop and cafe area.

My girlfriend and I visited Carew Castle as part of our short stay in Wales. There is plenty of parking near the castle and is quite easy to get to. Tickets were between 5 and 6 pounds per adult, and can be bought from the shop near the castle, which also has a tea house/cafe and gift shop within it. The tickets include a pamphlet/guide you can follow as you walk in and around the castle. The castle itself looks great from a distance but is quite impressive from the inside, and you can visit over a dozen separate rooms or areas in the castle, and windy stairs in one section will take you up multiple levels, which offer great views of the surrounding area. One of the main rooms had a wood fire going in a fireplace, which added a lovely touch to our stroll through the castle. We visited when the weather had been very cold, so the tidal area was iced over, which added to the already fantastic views. The castle took between 30 and 45 minutes to visit each room or area, and it took maybe another 20 minutes to walk the loop to tidal mill, across the river, then around the tidal pond. Definitely loved this place!
