If you park on the lower car park you have to walk up a steep climb to the steps then up into the first part of the castle then up more steps to the highest point of the castle.
It has beautiful views especially on a clear sunny day.
Pay on entrance and buy a brochure or do everything on line, we did and it’s really easy.
Our pictures show where the disability parking is and the lower parking. They only had portable loos when we visited.
Dogs are allowed on leads.
The castle—scratch that, country house (NOT a historical castle as it's built in the early 1800's) is nothing more than a ruin, which is fine, but there's no real historical information anywhere. You can only scan some QR codes along the way for very limited information and that's only IF you have any signal in the area to begin with. If you end up like us however, then more often than not you wander around asking questions about what's what and never getting any answers.
There's more information about some TV show that happened there, which feels ridiculous and—if not a fan of the show—utterly uninteresting. Even the castle shop is dedicated to it. It just makes it all feel similar to Al Bundy talking about his high school fame, a fleeting moment of fame that everyone has forgotten.
No one checks if you paid to enter the castle either and they literally ask you to take a photo of the map at the parking, because they don't have any maps (seriously?) making that £10 feel even more expensive.
I genuinely don't understand how this scores so well. Either the locals hype it up to get tourists, or people who visited this have never been to mainland European castles—where you can spend hours walking through fully restored and preserved castle museums for the same or often even less money.
Not very accessible for people with poor mobility as some areas are steps or slopes.
Certainly well worth a visit if you are in north Wales.
