The best example of a motte and bailey castle that we've seen in Wales. There's not a ton left to see, but after visiting several other ruins of motte and bailey castles, this was the most complete and most illustrative of what those types of constructions looked like. Definitely worth a visit!

Best surviving motte and bailey in Wales, sitting within a massive Iron Age enclosure. Delighted to find this absolute gem which is well worth a visit if you love archaeology and history. Free entry, open 10am - 4pm. Motte steps and slopes are very steep for really young children but slightly older children could tire themselves out running about in the great enclosure..

Awesome example of Motte and Bailey. Don't let the photos fool you. This site is huge. Highly recommend

You can park across the road by the Church and Phonebox. Not suitable for a pushchair I wouldn't say to get to the Castle but I'm sure if you want you can. The Castle has a lot of steps going up but they've added a handrail to make it easier! It's a nice little Castle to chill in and not often you'll bump into people so it's very peaceful. Been many times and will continue to visit!

Lovely place to visit with beautiful views, not an awful lot to see and steps are very steep. Parking at the church opposite is very limited

It's certainly out of the way and it doesn't take long to visit. But it's really fascinating to see the earth works and get a sense of what a motte and bailey castle was really like. Definitely worth the side trip.

Impressive and remarkable considering it is nearly 1000 years old! A free site in the middle of a cow field, so don't expect a shop, toilets etc but do expect a cow or two and maybe a cow pat in the castle. Lots of steps to go up so not one for the less fit.

What a brilliant find. If you're interested in history .. you have to go here. Fine remains of a motte and bailey castle
