I have been going to this restaurant with my family for 20 years. I just ordered a rice and was stocked to get over cooked mushy rice which is really not nice to eat. I was used to a high standard from them which is why I order over my local one. They offer to send a free one if I sent another order over £25. Don't think I'll be ordering from them again. Update from response. Please don't lie. You did not offer refund at the time only what I stated above. And deliveroo did not refund me. Please take better care when customers call to give feedback.

A disappointing evening. The restaurant has a good name as the best local Chinese eatery. It was packed and full of lively conversation. The ambiance did not match the food. The waiter was attentive but not knowledgeable about the dish. Our order arrived swiftly; the chicken and corn soup was tasty while the chicken dish was bland and the pork belly overcooked. The scraps of food fallen on the table were not brushed away between courses. No one came to check how the food was. Offering a desert menu was not automatic- the banana fritters were over brittle. We felt rushed out when the bill was brought without checking if we wanted coffee.

I consider myself quite a expert food critic, as my father was a famous chef and I have eaten in some of the best restaurants all over the world. I went to Maxim Chinese restaurant with my son recently (October 2022) and I have to say that the food quality was a cut above any other Chinese restaurant that I have been to in London in the last 30 years! We had to wait a while for our table, as the restaurant was packed (always a good sign), however it was worth the wait. The spare ribs were succulent with practically no fat, the duck was crispy with no fat and the portions were very generous. The atmosphere was also very warm and inviting.

I would wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant without hesitation.

I've had meals here before and it has been good. Tonight the food was good but the service was poor and something suspect was going on. The restaurant was full and there didn't seem to be enough staff on. This meant service was slow. I could accept this, but we ordered wine and it was served with a sleeve on the bottle. I strongly suspect the wine served was not what we ordered. I asked the staff why there was a sleeve on the bottle. They told me the sleeve was provided "to keep the wine warm". I asked them to remove the sleeve and there were no labels on the bottle to confirm what was in the bottle. I'm no expert, but I'm not convinced what was served was what we paid for. I will not be going back to this restaurant. This makes me sad because enjoyed my first few visits.

Read all the reviews & was concerned about this restaurant, but decided to judge for ourselves. It was the right decision & we were not disappointed. Busy on a Friday evening, service good & food even better. Definitely worth trying.

We have been coming to Maxim for a while now, and i like to come for special occasions, they are always happy to accommodate. The food is very good, I know the owner takes pride in his recipes. Staff are attentive and they are never far away when you need something. The restaurant is beautiful and no nonsense style, the focus is on the great food. Don’t come if you are on a budget but it will be worth it if you do, I look forward to coming again for many years. All the best, Andy and Jenny.

Fantastic restaurant, always a pleasure to eat here. Really good quality food, definitely a cut above your average Chinese restaurant in London. Welcoming with a delightful atmosphere, it’s traditional and homely, making for a really lovely night out. People complaining about the prices clearly don’t know what it costs to run a high quality restaurant with fresh ingredients and efficient service, it’s not cheap but it’s excellent value.
