Ocean Palace

Had this meal ordered last week on new year's eve as due to most shop are crazy busy. Was my first attempted since my mom is so strongly recommended. Although I've been waited for nearly 20minutes, but at least the food perfectly amazed me! Thanks for the service and the food, i'll be definitely sharing this place to my colleague later in work! I've been studying in Southend for nearly two and half years until one of my roommate recommend me this Chinese takeaway. It took me some transportation from my hostel to this little hidden takeaway shop but no regrets after I taste it. The food is so fabulous and most importantly it has the similar taste in my own hometown.
I don't usually write a review but I'm strongly recommend this takeaway in Southend area if you really wanted to have some good Asian foods. Isn't the best compare to most Asian food that I had but still isn't underrated.

Always use this place never had any problems with the food and is always delivered on time

Very disappointed. Took ages, the lady on the phone was rude, no Satay on Skewers so got a main dish was watery, the ribs werrle horrible. Salt and chilli chicken was dry and hard, the best thing about the whole dinner was the seaweed. Also forgot the chow mein, but did bring back in about 10 mins, won't be going back!

I went to Ocean Palace tonight (16/01/2022) for the first time, having lived in Shoebury for many years. This is, in fact, my most local Chinese, so thought it was about time to give it a go!

Upon entering, you can easily see how outdated and tired the shop is looking. While it is 'clean', with plentiful of notices around COVID and masks etc, you don't get the best of first impressions.

However, I decided to proceed with placing my order. I had Chicken in Cashew Nuts and Yellow Bean Sauce, with Mushroom Rice. A standard dish for me.

When standing in the shop, you get a glimpse into the kitchen. It isn't open planned, but you do get a view of the fridge and freezer, which to my surprise is only a standard fridge freezer that you would typically have in your household, with a microwave on top.

I was shocked with the events that took place shortly after. The chef proceeded to take the chicken out of the freezer and then PLACE IT IN THE MICROWAVE TO DEFROST! The chef then continued to cook the chicken in the wok after.

It's safe to say that when I got home and tukked into the meal, it was bland and tasteless, with the chicken lukewarm. There was a funny smell also, which was off-putting to say the least.

Overall, I will definitely not be coming back to this establishment after my experience, and should you be reading this, I would advise you not to as well! There was a lady who ordered a sweet and sour chicken after me, I can only hope that she is well and alive.

If you are looking for an actual decent Chinese in the Shoebury area, go to either Wok King, or if getting a delivery, Gold Coast!

What a disappointment. First order we had a couple of weeks ago was lovely and have to admit the best I’ve had for a very long time. However ordering from them this evening was a disappointment, the wrong order was sent and was a similar dish and of course called them asking where the rest of it was while the family tucked into what had been delivered. After speaking to them there had been a mix up and our order had been delivered to another address where they had opened it and found out themselves. After Chinese had collected that order from the wrong house they attempted to deliver it to us!! No way was we accepting a cold and contaminated possibly from COVID-19 dinner. We was advised if we wanted fresh we would have to pay In full AGAIN as we had eaten what they had already delivered. My advice stay away.

Proper bargain 5 pound chicken and chips. Also the young lad on the phone was very nice and kinda cute :)

Excellent food, and terrific service (especially from the man who took my order over the phone) would recommend
