During the first incident, we were waiting in the queue to pay and there were a few people in front of us. There were two members of staff at the tills, one male and one female. Everyone in front of us in the queue was served straight away. However, when we approached a till (which was being manned by the female member of staff) she walked off (almost instantly upon seeing us) saying that she couldn’t serve us at this time and that we should wait to be served by the male staff member on the other till.
Naturally, we assumed she was busy or had been called away to do something else but we watched as she went to stand outside the basically empty changing room area and began gossiping with a colleague who was standing nearby.
Not only had we been waiting in the queue for a fair amount of time at this point, it was also very clear that she was doing absolutely nothing of importance. She had made a very conscious decision to refuse to serve us. We did eventually get served by the male member of staff on the remaining till but this was after an extensive wait.
Ultimately, we decided to let this incident go because we thought it was a one-off. Yet, we went back to the store again about a week later and we had yet another awful experience.
We were waiting in the queue to get a refund and a Caucasian family were at the till getting a refund, just in front of us. This refund was taking a while to get processed because the family was going round the store trying scarves on and looking in mirrors (we presumed they must’ve wanted an exchange instead of a refund.)
This till was being manned by a male member of staff (the same male staff member in the previous story, who is always really friendly). However, because the queue was building up, this male staff member called over a female colleague to help speed things up.
Originally, this female member of staff thought she was going to continue to process the exchange/refund for the Caucasian family and she called them over to the till. However, the male staff member called them back and said he would continue serving them and instead, she should serve us (the next customers in the queue).
Yet, when she called us over, she briefly looked at us and suddenly said that she ‘couldn’t process refunds on this till and we needed to wait to be served at the other till.’ Even though she had been willing to process the refund for the Caucasian family?!
We made some passive aggressive remarks as we walked back to our place in the queue. Then suddenly, after hearing these remarks, she called us back to the till and was very ‘apologetic’ saying she could in fact, process our refund. Obviously, she had heard our passive aggressive remarks and was worried that she was going to be reported.
Overall, our experiences at this store have been awful. Racially motivated or not, the way we were treated was incredibly unpleasant and awful compared to the other excellent customer service we receive in other shops at Bluewater. I would NOT recommend this store to anyone.
Friendly staff and always great music going on in the background
Went into the store today to finally get a leather jacket for the other half . Was met and looked after by Cain ( forgive me if I've mispelled) he truly embraced and understood her style and went the extra mile .
He certainly knows his product range and how things fit . I was impressed by the way he also was tidying the shop whilst talking to his team and his general manner with customers . He gave everyone a real bespoke experience
You have a true diamond of a manager thanks Cain in making my shopping trip a dream . The missus so happy with her new jacket although my wallets is smarting .
I never leave empty handed. Brought a brand new black jumper with capital A on it . And it feels so soft
