After hearing fantastic things about this pub , myself and my husband decided to pay this place a visit . To say that we weren’t disappointed with the recommendation is an understatement.
The pub has a fantastic feel to it , the staff were so friendly and couldn’t do enough for us and the food was absolutely divine ! I had lasagne which was served with the most delicious homemade garlic bread and my husband had Ribs which were so succulent and tasty. After our meal we sat outside to enjoy a drink and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. We will definitely be back soon !!

Located alongside the river so we sat out side on a beautiful day. There were 7 of us and service was good, considering it was lunch time and peak service. Cheerful staff and nicely cooked meals especially as no two people orders the same. Enjoyable and well deserved five stars.

Charming, friendly staff and a lovely location overlooking the river. Food was good and prices very reasonable.

Room was spotless with a good sized double shower in the bathroom. Roadside position, combined with a warm night meant the open window transmitted a fair bit of traffic noise but there's not much that can be done about that.

Absolutely gorgeous amazing food (wish I had taken photos). Food was cooked to perfection and presented very well. Best peppercorn sauce ever. Staff were very polite & friendly. Absolutely will be going back and most definitely cannot wait to try their carvery Sunday lunch. Plenty of parking, the theme of the pub was a great read about the history of the pub itself.

We all went for a Sunday lunch and to celebrate my father in law’s 91st birthday, it was just fantastic. We were served by the lovely Katy who always made sure that everyone was just fine and she was around almost all the time to just look after us. The service was amazing and the carvery was so delicious. I also met the owner, Sean and we had a good chat. He told me that he bought the place 3 months ago and he was an excellent host. The dessert was also so good, so all in all, it was a brilliant afternoon. Thank you guys, and for sure see you soon

We have been going to the George 1V since 1993 and have found the food and ambiance very pleasant indeed. However, on a recent visit I ordered my favourite. Pan fried Salmon with vegetables on the side. When it arrived there were two pieces of dry, over cooked Salmon streaked with white fatty bits. Clearly micro-waved. (An absolute no-no for Salmon). It was served with a piece of soggy cabbage leaf and some under cooked , unpeeled potatoes. It was served without any kind of sauce. It was a very dry, unappetising, disappointing food experience.
In general it's better to pan fry Salmon with a little olive oil. Never microwave it. Microwaves cook from the inside out so it can dry out the delicate flesh of the Salmon. Serve with mixed vegetables in a side dish.
The waitress however, was friendly, obliging and attentive.
