So why a 3 for today. As is normal these days I placed and paid for my item, a fitbit, online. Straight forward and easy to do.
On arrival, just after lunch, there was one member of staff dealing with a customer and a second, who appeared to be stood waiting, but said nothing. A simple "I'll be with you shortly" would have sufficed to myself and the other 2 customers. But nothing. Instead after about 3 to 4 minutes a woman walked straight past the 3 of us waiting and went straight to the waiting member of staff, only to say that she'd not been able to find her proof of purchase but still wanted her refund processed. So that tied up that member of staff for the next 10 to 15 minutes, and was still dealing with the lady when I eventually left.
I eventually got served and noticed that there was at least one other member of staff in the stock area tidying up. Disappointing really as the second member of staff then became embroiled in giving another customer in front of me a refund; from a customer who, like the first, was unable to provide proof of purchase, although both did eventually using their phones and emails. Just goes to show, always get an email receipt, which makes it so much easier for everyone.
Once at the front normal service was resumed. Two minutes later I was back in the car and off.
This was the exception from the usual polite and helpful staff at Argos, Barnwood. Communication is the key, the member of staff at least said "sorry to keep you waiting", which was why I've decided on a rating of 4; that and the previous visits where I've received good service. The only other thing that I'd add is that the Argos New Year's sale isn't what it used to be. Also the stock lines appear to be getting smaller. Only 5 or 6 mp3 players in their catalogue, of which 3 were not in stock, another was very cheap and the other over £200; the only other option an expensive iPod.
